Someone here suggested turning off the indexing on my hard drive. It had
been running a little slow, it now is back up to speed.

If I could remember, I would have done it. OE's newsreader completely
deletes posts, so there's no way for me to know who it was.

I had a choice -- either a thank you note as I did, or nothing at all. I
thought the former was the better option.

I don't think it deletes them. You probably have it set to view
unread messages. Go to view > Current view and you will see the
different views that can be applied.

Yup, figured it out later. You can, however, delete them, which is what
I've been doing. I'm back using Opera again, after toying with OE and
Outlook for a few days. Much more comfortable with it, and it truly does
save your news items, as well as emails, in the trash bin, until you empty
it.
