The 4850 worth every penny

Just had to post on here for anyone in question. I'm runnin a rig thats over 2 years since build. DFI lanparty RDX200 Mobo (socket 939), 2 gigs good OCZ ram, X2 4200+, and a 1900xtx. Well I was running the 1900xtx, it crapped, I copped the 4850 from visiontek at the local best buy for $200 and some change. ATi just reminded me why I've been loyal. I wasn't expecting a GPU upgrade alone to give this kind of boost too an outdated system (at least by TH forum hamsters standards). Talking Crysis @ 1680x1050 with most everything on high and keeping close to 30 fps...havent found any other games that I play (mass effect, entire steam catologue, cod4, World in conflict, **** you name it) that dont run smooth as hell. Just wanted to keep all you socket 939ers in the fight...the 4850 is the truth.


No nvidia is better bull* please, I can only speak for the card I own.

glad to hear that. i'm also running a DFI LP socket 939 rig, 2GB DDR500 and an OpterOwn at 2.8 and was thinking of buying a 4850. this convinced me that i made the right choice.

i think there is ..in 3th world countries like mine (Jordan)
you will find more than 60% of the machines with AGP's

Good for you. I think it gives a good base of comparison since the 1900 XTX used to be quite a card back when released. In fact, even if it's getting long in the tooth, it still out performs many new cards that have been put to market much more recently.

The 1900xtx was a great purchase imo. Ran most everything up to the last half year or so flawlessly and at high res. Not sure if the stock heat/overclocking load temps finally burned the life out of it, but it was struggling to run most new games @ 1680x1050 above 30 fps. Goes to show that as long as you plan 2 years ahead you can get a long life out of a rig with good parts. the 4850 really has blown my lid for the past 3 days though...bravo ATi...

I also have a 939 socket rig and am running a x2 4200 also (2.2ghz), with almost 3 gigs of ram, a 512mb 2600 hd pro and was wondering how much of a difference upgrading to a 4850 would be, especially becuase I wont be able to upgrade the processor. Iv'e been reading reviews and comparing the gpus on here: http://www.pcvsconsole.com/features/video/?order=gpu
and am still not sure wether or not to upgrade to a 512mb 4850. Also, does anyone know when/ how much a 1gb version of the 4850 comes out, Im trying to stay in the 100-250$ range. Thanks

I have a similar system too, and I saw a good improvement over a 2900xt, especially in the AA department. I love that I can now use 8xAA (overkill, I know) in all my games including Oblivion and Assassins Creed. So far none of my games can challenge it. My 2900 by comparison could barely do 2xAA.
