The Ballistix or g.skill

You're comparing 1066MHz Ballistix with 800MHz G.Skill, so it really depends what your intensions are... Do you plan to OC beyond 1600MHz total FSB? If so, go with the 1066MHz. If not, 800MHz will be sufficient.
If you don't intend to OC at all, 533MHz (or 667MHz) would actually be enough for 1066MHz FSB borards, and they usually offer better timings.

Although I have nothing bad to say about G.Skill, I would go with Ballistix anyway you put it since I can only say good things about Crucial.
Pricewise...: I got 2x1GB 800MHz Ballistix kit for just $100 after mail-in rebate a few weeks ago, at Buy.com - but you probably can't get it for this price any longer...

I do plan to OC; however, I am new to overclocking, so I can't specifically tell you what exactly I'm shooting for. I need to do more research. I guess a good stable overclocking with air cooling that won't danger the longevity of the hardware too much is my goal.

Got that Ballistix myself the other day, and so far it's hit 1300MHz and can run at cas3 as well on P5B dlx....... however if you don't plan on OCing the memory much the GSkill will be fine, it's also good quality.

I have been very happy with G.Skill (still using DDR1 systems) and get same/higher OC's with less money than OCZ or Corsair (and @ lower volts as well).

The 2.2V factory-sanctioned overvolt spec for the Ballistix may cause upgrade problems in the future, as other RAM may not be happy at such a high boost from the DDR2 standard 1.8V.

Crucial period! They supply the best ram chips (Micron Fatboy) to all top companies like Corsair, OCZ etc. Crucial make their own chips unlike all other companies that just stick their own retarded heat spreader onto it...Go Crucial...if you can get the Ballistix Tracer. I got a set and it's the best damn looking ram chips on the face of this planet.

Me too! - sometimes I just enjoy looking at the red and yellow blinkey lights through my case window  Looks cool reflecting off the copper fins of my Zalman cooler, too.
