Ok I have two of these cards, so wanted to give an opinion and then ask a quick question.
-Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming
-EVGA 970 ACX 2.0 FTW
I'll break both these down and then ask for some thoughts...
EVGA FTW- PROS: Small and Awesome, if small is what you need. I've had it for about a month now (upgraded from MSI 770 4g) and have it running in a SFF case (Silverstone SG02, ASRock z87M mobo, I-5 4670K, etc). The whole deciding factor on this card was size to performance. This is a small build PC that sits on a shelf in a 4 post rack in my media room. The old MSI 770 4g was actually a little too tall for a perfect fit, and this card being a few mm shorter in height has me seriously smiling. The Fans can idle at zero which is nice for watching movies etc, and are quieter than any GPU I've had, and honestly I can't even hear them above the Silverstone NT-06 cpu fan. And this this thing is a beast of a performer right out of the box; the factory overclock is excellent. It kills Assassin's creed unity pretty much maxed out at 1080p and anything else I've played. Worth the $40 premium....
CONS: my opinion, Meh on the looks of the card (not an issue for me, I'm not showing this build off anyway). You probably won't be able to overclock this card too much further.
Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming- PROs- Better cooler, higher binned chips, better VRMs, higher overclocking potential than most of the other cards you're looking at. I like the looks; bought this for my main gaming rig (ASUS vii z97 hero, I-7 4690k). I've only had this a few days but it is excellent, performance and noise wise. Over these two cards, go with this one if you have the room in your case. Better value I think than the FTW.
CONS: really long and won't fit in many mATX, ITX builds.
Ok, now want to ask for some thoughts.... I was planning on ordering a second Gigabyte G1 970 to SLI, but am really torn on that or returning the one I have and ordering 2 MSI 970 Golden Editions. I think the MSI looks are insane and seems like they do have very high OC potential. Plus they're in stock right now on NE. need to decide quick!
thanks!
