The better cooling option

Hi,

I'm in the process of treating myself to a birthday present so I'm going to upgrade some of my PC components. What I'm having trouble with is deciding on CPU cooler. It's down between the Corsair H110 (or something comparable), and the Noctua NH-D15. From what I understand, both are best in class. However, both have pros and cons.

From what Ive been able to surmise, these are the cons with the H110:
* It's loud, I haven't tested one so I dont really have a feel for how loud, I'm just going on what I've read online. If its as loud as the online info makes it seem then it might be a problem.
* It ads the risk of leakage to my system, a risk i'd rather avoid.
* It's more complicated to install. granted thats subjective, but i'm handicapped,.. like literally, i was born disabled. so I'm not thats skilled att handling mechanical things.

Pros of H110:
* it's very good at.. wait for it... cooling.
* It looks cool (in fact I'm planning and replacing the fans with some better LED fans, like the Corsair ML series for example.
* Lot's of room for other components (which is the biggest drawback with the Noctua cooler)

Cons of the NH-D15:
* IT'S MASSIVE. That in itself is not a big problem for me, but I'm also planning on installing 4 Corsair Vengeance Pro Reds, and I even got the Corsair Vengeance Airflow which I was planning on installing. With the NH-D15 I don't think they/it would fit (... right?)... ALSO, I was watching a Youtube video where a guy was reviewing it and he said that it was so huge that it even covered up the top PCI-Express slot under the processor... which I am using (I plugged in an Elgato Game Capture HD60). not sure if that applies for my motherboard. i have a ASUS MAXIMUS VI HERO ATX.
* It's butt ugly... But I can minimize that a bit by replacing the fans with some LED ones... Would the ML series fans work on it or do I have to use the ones included with it? If i can replace them then I could put the included ones on the front of my case where they arent visible (front has a cover).

Pros of NH-D15
* Its super quiet from what i've heart.
* Awesome at cooling.
* SUPER easy to install from what I've heard.

I think because of the ease of installation, no noise, and no risk of leakage, I would prefer the Noctua, but if i cant use my Elgato or my ram + ram-cooler, then it's not really a viable option.

I would strongly appreciate some advice on the cons I've mentioned. If anyone has experience using these and can suggest solutions or just debunk some of the things Ive read (like is the H110 really THAT loud?) that would go a long way in helping my decide. Any additional info and recommendation is also welcome.

Thanks in advance!

Kind of odd the way its wrote as it sounds like only some 240mm radiators will work. Chalk it up to bad spec writing. All I can say for sure is the NH-D15 will work and the corsair 100i GTX. Here is another forum thread on the h110 with the Define R4 saying it doesn't fit. Not sure unless its designed on the inside mostly just for fans. Another forum post saying they had to modify the front cage for it to work.

H110 all the way.
If you need the space liquid cooling is the way.
Another good option is NZXT Kraken X61, this one is a little quieter.
Air coolers tend to be quieter than liquid coolers, but take more space.
It's one or the other.

I have the Fractal Design Define R4, Windowed version... I Think it will fit... sudenly not 100% sure now that you mention it, but it is a pretty massive case.

Interesting.. But I still dont have a feel for the noise levels.. just taking a quick look I see there's a X62, is that better?

The Case allows for a cooler upto 170mm which leaves 5mm for the Noctua NH-D15. The case tho only support a top mounted 240 radiators thus the H110 isn't an option. I suggest the H100i GTX which is great if you want a water cooler. Its on par with the H110.

CPU coolers up to 170mm tall (when no fan is installed in the side panel)
Top: 2 - 120/140mm fans (not included) - positions also support some models of 240 radiators, depending on configuration

I'm confused, if the fans are 140mm each, and the case top supports 2x 140mm fans how would it not fit? if i have a pull configuration with the fans on top, why wouldnt it fit?

I checked out the kraken x62, it looks freakin amazing and i sooo want it. you're telling me i wont be able to use it?
