The College Build-Suggestions welcome!

Hi all,

I know it's been a while since I've started a new post on the forum and I apologize for that! Ever since I've started on the forum about 5 years ago I have learned so much from this community and I want to thank you all for that. Specifically those that come to mind that I would like to thank (Sorry if I have forgotten about you as it has been a few years...)
-Reynod, 4Ryan6, Moto, Rubix, Lutfij, Novuake, Russ, Nick, everyone in the Casual Conversation Thread and more!
Thank you all for teaching me so much!

I have to definitely give extra thanks to 4Ryan6, Moto, Lutfij, and Rubix for my watercooling knowledge.

I have been fairly busy with the last few years of high school and am finally going off to college. I will be studying at the University of San Francisco for the next few years and will most likely even have less time to spend on the forum. 🙁

Now onto the build (which will happen soon)...

I am looking to downsize to something smaller than I currently have. I really am reusing most of the parts I have but am swapping out to some newer/better goodies. As of now, I really do not see the current CPU's that much of an upgrade over Sandy Bridge. IIRC there was an article which really only stated a 10-15% performance increase from the i7-2600K to the i7-6700K.

[strike]Originally, I was looking at ITX systems, however every ITX board that can run my i7-2600K is limited to 16GB of ram. So I decided I wanted to go with MATX. This will allow me to downsize my current setup while being able to run 32GB of ram for my video/photo projects.
[/strike]

Here is what I currently run:
i7-2600K
ASRock Z68 Extreme 4 Gen 3
Recently purchased Gigabyte G1 GTX 970
Cooler Master HAF XB
Danger Den DD-M6T (RIP Danger Den)
XSPC EX240
XSPC Bay reservoir w/Alphacool VP655

Here is what I plan on getting (really a sidegrade??)
ASRock Z68 Extreme 4 Gen 3 ---> [strike]ASUS Maximus IV Gene-Z [/strike]
HAF XB ---> [strike]Corsair Carbide Air 240 [/strike]
32GB of some fancy fast ram :)
Revamped Watercooling loop

4/26 Update:
This weekend I was looking at my local Craigslist and found a Corsair 350D, i7-3960X, Rampage IV Gene, and an H110 for a whopping $300. Decided to pick up the system to find out that it was actually an i7-3970X!

New build:
i7-3970X
Asus Rampage IV Gene
32GB Patriot 1866 mhz ddr3 (picked up this weekend)
Corsair 350D
Antec Truepower 750
G1 GTX 970
H110 (Will be replaced with custom loop in the summer and that's really what this thread is for)
Turns out I can reuse my XSPC Dual bay res + Alphacool VP655!

So far on this H110 I am able to hit 4.7ghz with offset of +.010, all C states on, for a voltage of 1.384 on full load with temperatures of around 70C.

Looking to lower temperatures with another EX240 in the loop.

[strike]Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I am pretty sure I can put my Alphacool VPP655 into this:

Or one of the EK X Res 100's

[/strike]
[strike]I will also potentially put another 240mm radiator on the bottom of the case and get a waterblock for the G1 970. However, this is very unlikely to happen because I want to have to accessibility to my parts in case I need to do something.
[/strike]
This will gradually happen in the next few months! 😀

Pictures to come soon...
