The correct way to OC

Hi guys:


I have a hd 7950 dd, i have always been confused, when people say that you should OC my increment, do they mean OC it for 25 mhz, save, 25mhz, save. or


OC by a little, play game, nothing happens , OC by a littlem play a little.......



which one?

It means overclock in small increments, then benchmark to make sure the card is stable at that clock.

I don't know what you mean by "save". But do like 25mhz, then run the card on high load (like a benchmark program). If its stable, then keep going. If the computer crashes, stop and go back a step.

What it means is that you add 25mhz to the speed of your card, then you play a game or run a benchmark to see if it is stable or in other words, to see if it works. If it is stable, then you add another 25mhz and test again. If its stable, and if the temperatures are fine (under ~75-80C) then you add another 25 mhz.
Start with small increments of 10mhz or so (I would not use 25mhz increments), and go slowly until you reach your desired overclock.

Just be careful, watch your temperatures and your voltages.

Is it okay to play games instead of benchmark? intense graphic games?

no wonder why i don't go over 975 mhz clock on my 7950, i just select 25 mhz, wait for 5 seconds, then keep raising up by 25 mhz

thanks! ya the thing is that even at stock my gpu runs at 80, i asked xfx and they say its normal, but ima rma it soon.

so if i didn't do the 25 increments(or 10, 5), would it affect my max stable clock? i bounced it all the way up to 1000 before and it shows artifact and game crash.

80C is hot, but reference cards can heat up quite a bit. Do NOT overclock your card if it gets that hot at stock clocks. Also the reason you go in small increments is to make sure that the card is safe and stable throughout the overclocking process (ie. that it doesn't overheat, or crash). Also when using increments of 10mhz it is easier to get to your max stable clock however the increments you increase in don't affect your max stable clock. So if you go by increments of 20 to get to say 940mhz it is the same if you go by increments of 10mhz. But if you crash at 920mhz and you get there by increments of 10mhz it will be easier to fine tune your overclock.
