The currently installed soundcard driver does not support Direct Sound

I installed Cubase Essential 5 on my new HP desktop and received this error message. This world is very new to me - what should I download?

You may need to install DirectX files here and here.

If that doesn't work, visit the HP driver download site for your model to download (and install) updated audio drivers. If that doesn't work. post:
-- your HP model number,
-- your sound card make and model, and
-- your graphics card make and model (sometimes there are audio drivers for graphics cards, e.g., ATI's HD models include drivers for HD audio).
