The device is recongnised. but i can not see the data

Trying to pull data from win 8.1 HD. when i connect, device shows working properly but I am unable to view the files. Any help?

What error(s) do you get?

No errors. The device is recognized by Win. and says device is working properly. Driver is up to date. I just can not access the HD files. I am connected to the win 8 HD via SATA to USB external.
