I hate that Nvidia and AMD decided to not got with PCI-e 5.0 with the 40 series or 7k series. And disappointed that Nvidia didn't go with 2.1 displayport for their 40 series. I upgraded from a1050 ti to a 3050 a yr or 2 ago since I don't want to pay for something so expensive, if i'm not going to be entirely happy with it. Battlemage, I know nothing about it, and it seems it won't release until H2 2024... And now i am seeing things say that AMD 8000 series is cancelled, but think i did see a video that said they were going to stop competing at the high end... not sure, this is unfortunate when it comes to Nvidia having to lower their prices.

AMD and Intel definitely have to work on their compatibility with games and other issues, otherwise Nvidia will just take over everything.

For the 40 series super, I'm hoping it has displayport 2.1 and uses pci-e 5.0, but i doubt it will have the latter, but if it still doesn't have dp 2.1, would the 7900 be a better choice to get or does displayport 1.4 not matter as much as i'm making it to be?

PCIe 5 makes no difference for current-gen GPUs. current-gen GPUs can't even saturate a full PCIe 4 x16 link, so why would they go with PCIe 5? That would just add cost for nothing.

Yeah, it kinda destroys the credibility of someone trying to criticise the video card maker when they themselves purchased one of the worst-value GPUs made in the last five years.
What exactly made the 3050 so bad? (other than value) I feel like at MSRP, it couldn't have been that bad, but I don't ever remember seeing any of the 30 series at MSRP for any meaningful amount of time.

Not sure why you would need DP 2.1.
For AMD having a lot of work to do, no clue what your saying.

The 7900xtx is made to compete with the 4080 and does very well for about 100 bucks less.

PCI-E 5.0 is not needed.

AMD is competing with the low to upper end cards not the top of the line and in general at dollar to performance is a better buy.

I don't think you need DP 2.1 either. You do need DP 2.0 for some monitors though.

And by the time that it is, current gen GPUs will be obsolete anyway.

exactly why I went with my 6800, it is plenty for 1080p and probably will be for at least the next couple of years, and by the time it is not enough for my needs anymore, I will probably just get a 1-2 generation old high-end card that is still plenty and probably much cheaper than whatever will be current at that time.

I don't know why you would need more than 120FPS in 4K since most games it's not going to happen with current hardware unless you turn settings way down and that defeats the purpose of having a 4K monitor.

@Order 66 Lol no, i bought it during the time it was hard to get gpu and the 3050 was the only one i was able to get, i did want to get the 3060 or 3060 ti minimum, but i got tired of waiting and I was using the 1050 ti for so long (7 yrs) so i got the 3050 as a placeholder until prices went down for gpus or that i'd be completely happy with my purchase. The 40 series was supposed to be my gpu for my current build, but the change of pci, displayport be lower than amd, and the cost still being high made me not get it. After I was going to wait for the 50 series, but it's not here until 2025 instead of 2024 unfortunately. But, with the 4080 Super rumored to be $1K, I'm thinking i'll probably get that, then the 5080/5080 ti/5090/5090ti (super versions would be considered too, depending on what they do with the cards before) will probably be my card for another 3-7 yrs lol.

@Zerk2012 @Order 66 I want DP 2.1 to have close to all of the latest technology for my computer and dp is the only way you can use freesync and g-sync, so thought it was dumb that they don't give their best cards at the very least, the best display port.

I wish AMD would still compete, like just drop 1 version of the 8000 series instead of having multiple options, just so Nvidia can't make the 50 series $2000 MSRP or something lol. Battlemage, hopefully will work out its problems by the time the 50 series comes out.

As I said above DP 2.1 is not needed just like PCI-E 5.0

If AMD just put all the R&D work in one card to defeat the best Nvidia card it would be a total disaster. Could they do it probably but the market share of people that buy the absolute best video card is not very large.
AMD is in a good position right now price to performance with a wide range of cards.

For the 4080 Super being 1K don't count on that at all as of right now in the US the lowest price regular 4080 is 1100 bucks.
You got to love Nvidia naming scams next up is the 4070ti super duper gaming extreme

If you look at the Steam video card survey less than 1% of users have a 4090.
