The i5-4670K or the FX-8320?

I am going for the FX because the only CPU intense thing I'll be doing is gaming that eats the CPU a bit more than other games do but that's it. Good choice or not? I saw a video by TechofTomorrow and he said that Intel CPus are good for video editing and rendering and shit like that but for just gaming AMD is all you need.

The i5 4670k is better for gaming.

Going by the specs in your sig, the i5 3570k would be the best price/performance option for you - amazing CPU especially if you already have a z77 board.

Intel > AMD for the most part in gaming FYI. (If we're comparing FX 83xx and intel i5 k series)

That sig is my current setup, the FX CPU is part of a new build am doing which contains a M5A97 board and a 280X

You'd get much better performance from just getting an i5 3570k. Performs almost identically to a 4670k and you don't need to get a new motherboard or a new copy of windows. No need for an arguably worse performing FX CPU.

I know it's stupid but I actually want the new motherboard because then I won't have to take out the MB of my current system and I kind of want to get a new MB because of the way they are packaged lol. Even thogh that's more expensive.

For the most part, similarly. There are only a few games that use more than 4 cores and they perform quite evenly. In BF4 for example the i5 quads perform very similarly to the FX 83xx at 1080p I believe. In a game like Crysis 3 though (a very isolated example), the FX 83xx will perform better.

Regardless, with your current video card you won't be seeing great fps in these games. The video card makes the most difference in gaming - you could either go to a 3570k + a new video card, or just get a new video card. Your i3 will perform similarly or better than an FX in single-threaded/lowly threaded games, it is only in a few instances where games use more cores that the FX will outperform it (4 cores and up, most likely).

I have come to believe that the FX real world gaming performance it better than people have given it credit for. Those tek syndicate real world gaming tests last january were pretty impressive and I have seen similar results before and since.

That said, you have a suitable intel board already, use it. The 3570K is a great part.

Like I said before, I would but I just really wanna get a new board even if it is for a stupid reason. I don't even know why I posted this because I was really just looking to confirm that the FX was a good choice.

Personally, I'm not overly pleased with it. If you're playing the latest AAA titles you'll be happier than I am, since I'm running many single-threaded games which tend to be older. Good luck and happy gaming hehe. :) The 280x is a great GPU too. I just think its a waste of money to get a worse chip on a new board ._.

Hugely game dependent. Which ones? :)

Should run decently. My FX 8320 mainly struggles in low-threaded multiplayer games.
