Hello, I recently upgraded to Windows 11 and notice that the @ key doesn't work immediately when I press it, instead I now have to hold it down a couple of seconds for it to register, no idea what I've turned on or done but it's only that key.

I should mention that when I switch to English US the @ key has no delay and works fine, but English UK which I mainly use has a delay ?

Try a clean boot and see if it changes anything - make sure to read instructions and make sure NOT to disable any microsoft services or windows won't load right - https://support.microsoft.com/en-au/help/929135/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows

it only stops programs running with windows, doesn't delete anything. Easy to reverse.

if clean boot fixes it, it shows its likely a startup program. You should, over a number of start-ups. restart the programs you stopped to isolate the one that is to blame.

Does keyboard have its own drivers/software?

what button do you press Shift & press? I only ask as on USA format its 2 but on UK I know its something like ' from memory

I tried doing a clean boot already, I only got the PC yesterday and the ' key was working fine. Not too sure if it's a toggle thing within windows as I can change the language and the key works just fine. But I'll give it another go with a clean boot and update drivers.

if its only new, could try system restore and see if you can roll system back to before it started
Open search and type "restore" then open "create a restore point"
create a new Restore Point now for C-drive
then open the newest restore point that is prior to the problem happening (if you have one)
(you only make a new one now in case you don't currently have one, gives you something to select)

drivers is another reason since its only new.

Is it a pre built or custom?
if pre built, what make/model
if custom, what are specs?

I ordered my pc from SCAN, all the keys were working fine last night I haven't installed any programs or changed any settings since then just randomly my ' key has to be held down now, makes it hard to type since I use ' and @ a lot for work.

Just tried another clean boot, disabled all the services and startup programs. The ' key doesn't work when pressed using English UK keyboard layout, but changing it to English US the ' key works fine when pressing it no need to hold down. Not too sure why English UK breaks just that 1 key. 🙁

it might be sticky keys?

it doesn't sound like it though

this scan?

keyboard drivers normally built into windows unless its a gaming keyboard.

don't download anything - https://www.minitool.com/news/windows-10-keyboard-lag.html

That's SCAN, had a few PC from them over the years always works fine.
Going to try the DISM see if I have any luck, out of ideas after that. Even the Microsoft tech I've been speaking to is clueless since it works on another language but not UK :)

try running this - https://www.hitmanpro.com/en-us and see if it finds anything, could be malware. random after 1 day...

does it do it in safe mode?

  1. go to settings/System/recovery
  2. Next to advanced startup, click restart now button
  3. this restarts PC in a blue menu
  4. choose troubleshoot
  5. choose advanced
  6. choose startup options
  7. click the restart button
  8. choose a safe mode (it doesn't matter which) by using number associated with it.
  9. Pc will restart and load safe mode

Even in safe mode it doesn't work when I'm on english UK, but switching to english US the key works fine. I may have to get used to @ been on shift + 2 a this point :)

this looks familiar- no answer: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...-pressed/f47f3262-e292-4d47-a5ab-edea19523af6

looks like a bug with UK format.

see if this helps - https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...-perfect/e62e32e4-60c5-4100-b883-0abce662745a
note: menus might be different in win 11, I didn't look to see what version of windows he was using
Thank you!! I had "switch keyboard layout" set to grave accent, changed it to not assigned and it works as it should again :)
Thanks for taking time to help me :)
