I had the USB3.0 version of that board, probably a few revisions ago when it was still blue like the S2P that just died on you Tiny. Those things are not meant to overclock at all. I'm surprised you got it that far. I got mine at MC with a FX-6300 IIRC and it would throttle all the time if I tried to go past 4GHz. The temps were fine on everything I just could not find a way to get it to hold a steady speed.

The 990FXA-UD3 is a good board. When I had one it had a little issue with vDroop and LLC but I was browsing an AMD thread the other day and thought I had read they fixed that with a newer revision of the board. Yours is likely the newest revision since you bought it recently.

Happy weekend everybody, ive had a bad few days, lots of BSOD and yesterday my 580 died. now im just stuck with this old 8800 GTX, can barely play anything thesedays :\. starting to think my motherboard is cursed now 😛 first I had an insanely stutter R9 290, a 780 that would turn itself off and now a dead 580 :\

Ugh I wish I lived closer to Atlanta. That's the closest Micro Center to me. About 4.5 hours from here, too much gas money spent on the drive but perhaps we will head that way on a family vacation this summer 😀

I was browsing their site, a A10-7850K and Gigabyte GA-F2A88XN-WIFI for $212 after tax. Compared to $280 at Newegg. Unfortunately I would spend $70 in gas easily just for the trip so not very cost effective unless I have other plans in the area. Maybe a Braves game, the Georgia Aquarium, some nice restaurants, and just a quick stop into MC for some toys!

Don't think so, ive used it in a previous build(AX850 so its decent 😛) and never had these issues, this motherboard just hates me I guess, only problem is I just bought a new ssd so im outta money for now.

Yes, I have Revision 4.0, the newest one with all the fixes for the VRM cooling and vDroop. I really like it. I went to 4.2ghz this morning with the Phenom 2 x4 965 just to see if I could get it stable, and it was but because I'm currently stuck with this h60, I couldn't keep the temps in the "safe" range so I'm back at 4.0ghz.

EVGA made the right call by removing the Bluetooth dongle off their Stinger board but they made the wrong call in the pricing department.

Should have come out as a Sub $180 board... The rest of the guys sporting the Mitx lineup are pretty feature packed, wonder how the Maximus VII Impact would look like...?
:)

Well, to me, it was something useless unless you included it with wifi alongside it. The other competitors...namely the Maximus VI Impact gave you everything the EVGA Z87 Stinger gave you but with more options for upgrade.

For the VII Gene the sound card design used in the VI Impact has been brought over to the Gene. From what I hear, the audio quality is better than what you get on a regular chip...but that is changing drastically fast and efficiently.

What sort of a system are you looking forward to...? ATX, matx, or mitx? That would help me narrow down my comments :)

im looking ATX im normal 😛 ( you don't need to narrow down your comments haha im always willing to learn something new) thinking off getting off this cursed Z68 UD4&2600k, already bought a 512gb ssd and new powersupply, and have a thermaltake chasermk1 case ready to go haha. that's why im really interested in the asrocks, the black and blue color scheme would fit that case perfectly!

Don't really think that fancy audio is worth the extra cost, a lot of people thes days use USB based headsets.

Hey tell me what you think of the chaser Mk1? I think its a little more wacky design than what ive got now ( cm haf xm) but... at the same time I really like it, and the external HDD dock is pretty damn useful!

I just switched the AData SP900 SSD in Midget for a Samsung 840 EVO due to what looks like a 0.8W drop in Active Idle power used. Just looking at the power meter while I was getting rid of AVG in favor of Avast! on it last night, I may have added another half hour of battery life. The AData will be fine in a Desktop PC.

Well I was trying to upgrade the CPU in my kids' Dell Optiplex 380, it had a Pentium E5300 (dual core 2.6GHz), I couldn't decide if I wanted more cores, or faster cores, I didn't want to spend $80 for both. I thought it was unfortunate that I won a C2D E8500 and C2Q Q8400 on eBay, both for cheap. But I put the Quad in and it only shows two cores? Perhaps a motherboard limitation? But the spec sheet said this CPU was supported. I put the Duo in and will keep it 2 cores but much faster than the Pentium cores, with more cache as well. I'm not sure if this crappy Dell heatsink could handle 4 cores and 95w anyway. I guess I will be listing the Q8400 as I can't use it. At least I can probably get my money back and possible a dollar or two in profit.

How much for the CPU? I have the same CPU and want to change it.

Stickg1 - have you looked into a BIOS update for the Optiplex mobo? Usually they are limited by that or maybe the spec sheet was referring to another higher end mobo that wasn't included in your bundle...?

Pandabubba - Although I own 2 Thermaltake cases from 2006~2010 I've found their cases designs go downhill since that period. The only exceptions would be the Level 10(originally designed by BMW) and quiet frankly there are other competitors out there that offer a better build quality and experience in their products.

If the product cuts your cheese, by all means get it and make the most of it. When I'm hunting for products, I tend to hit multiple birds with one stone. The more I can hit the merrier I am 😀

Speaking of audio, I'm not very fond of USB headphone's or headphone gaming. I'm yet satisfied with my 4 point surround setup and my connections are all analog 3.5mm connectors. Since I'm building a SFF rig this time round, I'm digging alot into mitx boards and their feature sets. Don't want to compromise with the audio either :)

Onus - I'm thinking of going that route too on my Hp 4430s Probook. Give it a SSD upgrade, remove ODD and also bump up the ram on it. Would make quite a machine on the go for my client presentations...

Lutfij, I have to agree that thermaltake has a bad reputation for their build quality lately, but in my opinion the chaser mk-1 was actually on par with my haf xm, I built a p55 rig in it a month ago and was pleasantly surprised!

:) I yet think the HAF XM design was copied by Tt's division.

True how some cases actually provide surprises during builds. I was surprised to find watercooling support on a cheap case in which I built an HTPC for a really good friend of mine.
