the memory (RAM) of my laptop reduced from 1GB to 768MB after formating

Your laptop likely has "shared" memory... which means a portion of your RAM is used as video memory. This happens when you have a built-in graphics chip (even on desktop systems) rather than a separate or "discrete" video card.
