Hey everyone

I am currently planning a build for this summer for my Dad and I, but the way we used to do it in the past may have changed. The build revolves around the ASRock Z77 Extreme 4 and we were following the memory support list which we thought shows all the types of RAM which this motherboard supports.

http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z77%20Extreme4/?cat=Memory

Unfortunately, a lot of these particular sticks appear to be outdated, out of stock, etc, no longer made, etc. When choosing motherboard/ram compatibility is one able to choose RAM that is not necessarily on this list? If so what RAM usable for certain motherboards -- besides the obvious making sure that the speed of the RAM does not go over what the motherboard supports.

Thank you kindly!
ASmith

The Z77 Extreme 4 will take most any DRAM you want to throw at it. Your CPU may be a factor, on mine I run 32GB of GSkill Trident 2400 with a 3570K and (it's a CPU limit) that's the max I can run. As far as what is on the mobo QVL, to be honest is a bit of a waste of time. Mobo makers test with whatever they have available and generally just test at the mobos default DRAM boot freq (typically 1333 or 1600) . Might take a look at an article on this I wrote:

I have a similar (shorter) version on GSkill's web site
