The microphone attached to my headset does not record sound, Instead the microphone is recording through headset EarCups

I recently bought a new headet and for some reason when I attempt to talk through the microphone attached to the headset, no audio is recorded.

When I tried to use discord everyone would say that they could hear the game sound and their own voice clearly. I then attempted to talk through the ear cup as a joke, but once I did this everyone could hear my voice.

So I came to the conclusion that the audio from the headet is recording through the earcups on the headset along with all sound.

I have no idea why this is happening and was hoping I could get some assistance.

-Geforce GTX 1060
-8GB Kingstron HyperX RAM

Its an offbrand one i got from amazon, I dont think the headset is the problem because it works on my laptop, but not this desktop

That depends on how it's wired, and how it's meant to be hooked up.

It sounds like the mic input is shorting to the headphone circuit. Since that's a distinctly hardware related issue, please tell us what hardware you have, including the headset.

With software issues, you can't use the headphones as the microphone.

That depends on how it's wired, and how it's meant to be hooked up.

As I suspected, that headset has a single TRRS (4-pin) connector that carries both the mic and headphone signals. Desktop computers require a TRS (3-pin) connector for the headphones, and a TS (2-pin) or TRS (3-pin) connector for the mic.

You should get a 4-pin to dual 3-pin splitter like this one in order to use it with your desktop (first is a US link, second is UK):

That's pretty straightforward, then. Your adapter is bad. They may have sent a simple splitter rather than a true combo jack adapter.
