The new DX12 sli feature question

We all saw the new dx12 abilities to sli different gpu's from different companies.
But if I currently have a GTX 980 Ti, and I will buy in the 2 next years a pascal or volta gpu would I be able to sli them? And efficiently?

Nobody knows - i don't even think the engineers know at this point although a few of them should have an idea.
