The newest NVidia GPU

Well I got the stupid TigerDirect catalogue today. Normally I throw the thing out (strictly Newegg) but was wishing I had a second job to throw more money into my latest build, mainly the GPU. And I see a 9800 GTX selling for under 200 dollars and was astounded. So I started looking to see why the sudden drop and was introduced to the 260 GTX. Now what little I found on them was highly encouraging and the price is about what I paid for my current 8800 GT. So my question is what about the rest of you. I know alot of you know more than I and game much more than i do. And probably pay more attention to what is happening in the new GPU end of things. Is there another break to happen in the next month or two or is this the big change from the 8800/9800 series of GPU? And how many are using this with their jaws hitting the floor if anyone?

Probably not, there aren't any new cards coming out so soon to tank prices further.

g92 8800gts/9800gtx perform only 15% higher than 8800gt, so it's not really worthy of an upgrade no matter how much prices drop.

This is the where ATI has made a comeback and nVidia had to finally lower their prices to match the performance. If you want a $200 upgrade then buy the ATI 4850, it outperforms the 9800 GTX heavily. If you want a $300 upgrade then buy the 4870, though if you are a Crysis junkie and mostly care about your performance in Crysis then get the GTX 260. When it comes to the 4870/GTX 260 comparison, both are pretty close, but the 4870 comes out a little ahead of the GTX 260.

Op what resolution do you actually play at, that is, what is your screen's native resolution?

Exactly, even through it's not the cool thing to do those days. 1280x1024 or the widescreen equivalent of the same area is still among the most often used resolution.

As for 9800gtx+, it's merely a die shrink. Don't expect a noticable performance gain.

Yes the 4850 outperforms the 9800 GTX. At resolutions below 1280x1024 the games would be CPU limited and so the difference would be minimal and the comparison would be absolutely useless. I love how you said "4850 does not outperform 9800gtx at all" and then followed that with "unless you look at resolutions higher than 1280x1024". So not only is your English and common sense horrendous, but so is your computer knowledge. Thank you, but I could do without being criticized by ignorant fanboys.

the 4850 will outperform the 9800GTX at any resolution if filters is turn on. but the 9800GTX+ can hold some ground without filters, but then again when filters turn on 4850 fights back.

aww hell i thought i was in the winning camp with the nvidia chipset but now i am seeing maybe i need to just replace my gpu (overheats on idle and freezes pisses me off badly but now i know not to skimp on the gpu)
and sell the damn thing and build another one. ati gonna hold this edge you think?

Look at the benchmarks again yourself dagger, WHO CARES if the 9800GTX gets 229fps in FartCry versus 204fps? OR vice versa 86 vs 85 fps in COD4? Or better yet 152fps for the GTX vs 123 fps for the HD4850 in UT3 yet the GF9600GT gets 166fps?

If you think that that means the GF9600GT is a better buy than either the GF9800GTX or HD4850, then you're ignorant. Take your own advice and LOOK AT THE BENCHMARKS.

Even Crysis is running in DX9? Why? DX10 works great on these cards, although the outcome is different.

C'mon this is the second time I've seen you pull out these lame benchmarks, and really it just looks sad when you actually both to look deep into the benchmark like you suggest.
