I want to get the NH-14D cooler for my PC, but I want to know something first.

The NH-D14 I found on Amazon.ca:

It says, "Noctua NH-D14 for Intel LGA 1156, LGA1366, LGA775 and AMD AM2/AM2+/AM3 Sockets, 6 Dual Heatpipe with 140mm/120mm Dual SSO Bearing Fans, Quiet CPU Cooler - Retail."

I read somewhere else online that it can indeed fit the LGA 1155 socket type. Is this just a typo?

if it can fit the LGA 775 and 1156 sockets then it can easily fit the LGA 1155 sockets cpus.

And in your honest opinion, do you think the NH-14D is a good choice for me? Does it also come with extra mounting brackets for a third fan? Cause i heard you can install a third fan as well.

CPU: i5-core 2500k @ 3.3 Ghz
Video Card: MSI Twin Frozer Nvidia Geforce GTX 560 Ti @ 1GB
MOBO: Pegatron 2AB6 (plan on upgrading to the ASRock Z77 Extreme4)
HDD: Western Digital @ 298GB
Case: Enermax Ostrog GT
Fan positions:
-front: 2x140mm blue LED
-bottom (exhaust; can't be used to blow air in cause then the fan itself is bushing up against the bottom of the case): 1X120mm
-back exhaust: 1x120mm
-top (exhaust): 2x120mm
Question: should my top fans be blowing cool air in? Or out? I heard top fans are usually placed so they can take all the hot air out. I don't know. Do you think my fan setup is okay?

Top fans should be blowing the air out. But make sure those are on the lowest RPM possible. Even a low noise adapter would be good to put on them. But not on the rear exhaust fan. I think there are some better thing you could upgrade before your motherboard and CPU cooler. Not unless you have money for a new GPU too. I think getting a r9 280 or GTX 970 or something like that would knock your socks off the most. You shouldn't use a bottom fan at all they mess up air flow big time.

What PSU do you have? Make and model please

Getting this bundle: http://www.galaxstore.net/GALAX-NVIDIA-Geforce-GTX-970-OC-FREE-Gamer-120GB-p/97nph6dt8rvz-g1an8ebdmha.htm

Would be great too. You could get an SSD for your OS to make everything super quick and then you get the 970.

Unfortunately, my crappy HP motherboard can't control my fan speeds. >_< So they're constantly running at full speed. The front and fear fans came with the case and the top two are Cooler Master R4-L2S-124K-GP. I plan on getting the NZXT Grid + fan controller in the near future to control my fan speeds. I don't have the money to get a new video card any time soon. At least not till towards the fall of this year when I go back to college. The Geforce GTX 970 was my choice for a video card. I have the bookmark saved in Google Chrome. ^^ But I've never heard of the brand name in that link you sent me. The one I had saved was Gigabyte, but it's over $400. :/ My PSU is a Antec 650W. I also plan on upgrading to a SDD in the future, once I have the important things upgraded first. ^^ Also, you never did answer my question on if the NH-D14 was a good choice for me or if the cooler came with a third bracket to install a third optional fan.

Well how much do you plan on OCing? If not much then get something like a CM T4 or CRYORIG H7. If you plan on OCing a lot, then the Noctua will be a great choice. Just make sure your case can support such a massive cooler.

Third fan might be possible but I can guarantee you that it won't add much performance at all.

I ordered the cooler today cause I narrowed it down to my fav choice and with some help on other sites.
I'm sure it'll fit into my Enermax Ostrog GT mid tower case. The measurements are:
Dimensions (D)×(W)×(H)
485 x 244 x 495 mm

So my case has a clearance of 9.6 inches and the height of the cooler is 6.3 inches tall. It should be okay.

I have a old HP motherboard that doesn't have any options in the BIOS to control fan speed, Q-fan or voltage. The model of my motherboard is the Pegatron 2AB6. I plan on getting a new motherboard sometime in the near future, but I have to stick with this one for now. >_< So will this be a problem for me when I get my NH-D14 in the mail? I know that people have turned off the Q-fan option in the BIOS, but because I can't do that, can I just connect the two 3-pin fans into the Y-splitter given and the other end into the 4-pin CPU header? I heard you can still use 3-pin fans onto a 4-pin header with the other pin exposed. I need some clarification on this, please. >_< I really want to use the NH-D14, but I'm afraid that my motherboard won't be compatible with it and there's no information of my motherboard online to help me with, cause it's an old HP board. Please help!

Well, there has to be a fan connected to the CPU header in order for the PC to work properly, right? So if the NH-D14 has two fans, how can I connect both those fans to a single header without a spliter? I mean, I do have a 4-pin molex already installed that has four 3-pin fan connectors so I could always connect the cooler's two fans to that, but what do I do about the empty CPU header? And about the "automatic fan controller in BIOS" or "Q-fan" is in this link: http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?p=5098409&posted=1#post5098409

So what you're saying as a solution is, connect one of the NH-D14's fans to a system fan header and the other fan to the CPU header? That's genius! Why didn't I think about that? xD Now, as for the exhaust fan (which is taking up the system fan header; cause i only have 2 spots for fans, one being the system fan and the other bring the CPU header) do I just plug the exhaust fan into the molex fan splitter I mentioned? I think that'd work. Will I still get the CPU fan error even though there will be a fan connected to the CPU fan header? Cause it said somewhere that sometimes the fans on the cooler won't start up when the PC is booted up due to the fan speed being too low. And I don't have a BIOS that has an option to control fan speed. >_<

I did order a Nzxt Grid+ yesterday, but then I found out there's a well known bug with the CAM software that causes the controller to stop working. Cause in order for the fan hub to work, the software has to work. Otherwise, it's basically a paperweight. >_< So I told Newegg and they said as soon as I get the package to either refuse the package so it'll be returned to them and get a refund or get a shipping label from them if Canada Post won't let me refuse it. Either way I'll be getting my money back and getting a new fan controller. I was thinking about getting the Sentry Mesh. What do you think? It's simple and looks good with my mesh front of my case and it does what it's advertised to do. It's that or the Sentry 2 Mix.

Yeah I like the Sentry Mix 2 as much as the Sentry Mesh, but the Sentry Mesh would go well with the black mesh on the front of my case. lol

Yep! ^^ Thanks for all the help you gave me, man! Greatly appreciate it!
