Like the title says, wich GPU has about the same specs (GPU's of the new models of this time).

I have been using my GTX 690 for almost 4 years. I have the feeling it's getting old and thinking about getting a slightly better one. I am not planning on downgrading. I am just looking for the same specs or maby higher.

I have recently bought the Forza horizon 3 and my GPU has some hard time trying to get the max fps.

please help.... 🙁

I guess the question is if you're asking us "which new card has near-identical specs to the GTX 690", or "which card would be a good upgrade to replace my GTX 690"?

For the first question, since you can't really compare the hardware specs between nVidia & AMD, it's mainly which card would have matching hardware. The GTX 1060 has slightly fewer CUDA cores, but much faster clock speeds, faster VRAM, a lot more VRAM (yours has 2GB per chip, GTX 1060 has 6GB), similar fill rates, & identical memory bandwidth; the GTX 1070, obviously, is faster, has more VRAM, & more bandwidth than a GTX 1060.

However, they also run a lot cooler. 120W TDP for the 1060 & 150W for the 1070 is a lot less than 300W for your 690. So you'll save a bit on...
Well, it's not that straight forward as a result of the 690 being a dual GPU card. For games that have poor/no multi GPU support, something like a 1050 ti would be similar (but probably a little better). For games that scale well with dual GPU, you would need at least a GTX 1060 6GB/RX 480, or maybe even a GTX 1070 to ensure better performance across the board.

Agreed, though nothing quite like replacing a flagship for a flagship.

Only real problem it has now is a lack of GPU memory for running high res. A GTX1070 fills that with is 8GB of GDDR5. Though the GTX1080 has GDDR5X to get that little extra bit of bandwidth.

Never noticed before, but the GPU Hierarchy chart is missing the Titan Z, which was the last dual GPU card from Nvidia. A pair of Maxwell Titan X on a card. Though the Titan X (Pascal) is probably a close approximation in terms of performance.

I did a little research... The RX 480 did a better job that the GTX 1070. It was played on Forza horizon 3. Any idea how this can happen? I dont really know much about the specs part. Is there much difference bewteen the 1070 and the rx 480?

RX480 should comfortably compete with a GTX1060, and will likely overtake it as games start adopting DX12 and Vulkan. Though some games already do favor AMD over Nvidia.

The 1070 is a big step up (50% faster than a GTX1060), and the GTX1080 is another 50% (double a 1060)

AMD will release a 1070/1080 competitor relatively soon in the form of their new Vega GPU.

Where do you see an RX 480 beating a GTX 1070 in Forza Horizon 3 (or any game for that matter)?

I am thinking between the rx 480 and the 1070. would i benefit more from the 480 or the 1070. I am playing all sorts of games. fallout. gta V. forza. csgo. bf1 etc... 480 is a bacg for the buck, but at the other hand the 1070 is still better i think.. What do you say?

have a look

However, I think the more meaningful question is whether you can find a card that can perform better.

The first big takeaway I'm seeing from these charts is, to misquote Rainier Wolfcastle, "The SLI, it does nothing!!!". All 3 SLI cards (780, 980 & 1080) show zero improvement on all quality settings & at both 1080p & 2160p resolutions. That means your GTX 690 is no better than (& probably slightly slower than) a GTX 680 (the 690 being dual 680s on a single card). And since I'd guess that a 680's performance falls somewhere between the 770 & 780 on the chart, that's probably why it's struggling.

Based on the charts, if you're OK with High settings for 1080p (or possibly Very High at lower resolutions, then a GTX 1060 or RX470/480 should be fine to get at least 60FPS. If you want Very High quality and/or High Quality on 1440p to 2160p, then you'll want at least a GTX 1070, maybe even a GTX 1080 to get to that level.

A misquote of one of my all time favorite lines! LOL

And, morbidly enough, a line a friend of mine kept repeating when he was in the ambulance after having, yes, actually lost one of his eyes...
