The potential of the HD 4770

I'm a returning gamer of the PC world. The last pc I had was working with a Radeon X800 Pro AGP setup. Yeah its been a while. The question I had to mind was if I should purchase the HD 4770?

The only game that I'm solely using it for is World of Warcraft and maybe pehaps old FPS's like Doom 3, F.E.A.R and Painkiller.

I haven't purchased the pc but here is what I was looking into

AMD Phenom X4 955 or Intel QX6600
4GB DDR2
500+GB hard drive (no preference)

In the future, since its crossfire compatible, would it be possible to purchase another and run Crysis okay?

I appreciate all the help

thx i had a feeling that WoW was Nvidia friendly. On a logicial choice, if I was using the HD4770 for say FPS greats like Crysis and crossfiring the same card, would you agree it would be the better card?

Palit NVIDIA GTS250 512Mb or Sapphire ATI Radeon HD4770 512Mb?

which would be a better choice then? I'm looking to go ahead and buy the 4770. I play all sorts of games, soccer, flight simulators, FPS, RPG and Warcraft too. =)

BTW, i am using an ASUS M3N78PRO mobo, Phenom 9850 so can i use the 4770 on my system? are there any compatibility problem whatsoever?

lol yeah , hopefully :) . back to the topic :D so this bloke wants a card and a nice one with bang for buck ? hit the asus 4830 with a different cooler and your A for a way !! its really a nice performer. and pretty much the meaning bang for buck :D

idk about the 4770 cards. never had one . but i guess its a bit slower than the 4800 family ?

stay away from the 4670 ..... that's for sure !

I've heard from good rumors HD 4770 performs exceptionally well for the money put out like psycho says. I'm just running games like WoW and maybe COD5 in the future.

I will look forward to enjoying Doom 4, which is the time I decide to put more out. Hence, the crossfire dual HD4770s.

Why has no one mentioned the 4850? Slightly faster card, and actually less money currently. The 4770 is an awesome card, I have 2. But if I were buying them now, it would be the 4850.

That begs a question though. Not to hijack this thread, but the 4850 is 256 bit with DDR3. The 4770 is 128 bit DDR5. Why would they do that?

i read this somewhere. DDR5 is twice faster than DDR3. so they make it half of 4850, and their performances might as well still be similar because of DDR5 on 4770.

AND, 'they' say 4770 with the new 40nm node its a beginning of a whole new line of ATI GPUs. who knows. makes sense when u think why they put lower bits and put only 512mb in. they wanna see how it goes.

test market~~ just my 2 cents. :) (yapping yapping)

the reason that the 4850 is cheaper is because it runs hotter and it consumes more power, the 4770 has 128bit gddr5 whereas the 4850 has 256 bit gddr3 but the 4850 has more memory bandwith, and it has more stream processors, once ur system is well ventillated, and ur psu is strong enough, goo 4850
