I got my evga PSU today. I removed it from the box and went on and plugged it into the outlet and flip the switch on the back on and nothing happen.
Do I need to connect my new PSU to the motherboard for it to work

Solution
Plugging a PSU in and turning it on does nothing, it needs the signal from the 24 pin to turn on.
You either have to do the paper clip method (My EVGA unit came with an adapter that does this), or actually assemble the system fully.

it is dead, yes, especially if you don't know how to use it and expect it to do all for you, like connect itself to the mainboard it is designed to work with and expects to be controlled by it

rest in peace poor psu, we will miss you
