what is a good cooling solution for athlon that is the quietest on the market? it still needs to do the job, will be used on both a athlon xp 1500+ and 1700+. thanks.

Dragon orb 3 if you want something ezy. Peltier if you want something quiet. Go to my post in this folder/category, it should still be in da more active ones.

thanks guys for the suggestions. everyone seems to like dragon orbs so i picked a thermaltake mini super orb. its about what i was looking for. anything but that loud delta (7400rpm to much for me), i had before.

the copper flower thing looks nice (and quiet). Any idea how well it works?
I got a 7600 RPM 60mm fan on my thermoengine and it is toooo noisy.
I'm running at about 39 degrees at the mo. any idea if this flower thing will keep my athlon cool enough?

everyone likes dragon orbs so you ignored them and bought a mini orb? that was smart... :frown: be careful, it will stand a good chance of crushing your cpu core, does not cool well and do NOT use a shim with it.

Basically return it if you can....

Alpha PAL 8045 and the ultra-quiet 80mm Papst fan you can get at plycon.com is probably your best option. anandtech.com did a review of hsfs, you might do good checking that out. Alternately, you could get a Noise Control Silverado and run it in "quiet" mode.

I apologize peteb for my lack of wisdom and general foolish behavior. My favorite shop in town didnt have the dragon orb3 4000rpm version only 7000.
The mini orb was very easy to put on, not near as much pressure on the cpu core as my last hs/fan combo. This place did their own tests on the hs they sell also, the mini super orb was not far behind the dragon orb3 on temp control especially for being a aluminum solution.

Actually it does better than my annoying delta/alpha hs combo i had before and it twice as quiet. I am going to get a dragon orb3 4k rpm, i build enough computers that i can use it on another.

My old heatsink was a Alpha PAL6035. The fan is a 60mm says GlobalWIN but when i ordered it they said it was a delta and supposed to push something like 58cfm.

Never tried one. I figure if their webpage offers them (look at the recommended solution vs system bit) they work. I use several of their products and they do the business.

i've an Aqua 690 package with a Taïsol 4800RPM

you have a good cooling, it's very quiet & it's AMD certify

but there is about 10 other brands which can also fit your needs

ok, buy nothing.

thermaltake volcano6cu.
the cu+ has a 7000 rpm fan on it and is loud as hell.
the cu is 4500rpm, and is nice quiet, and cools almost the same....and is AMD reccomended.....
and it is easy to install, has a copper insert, which BTW is really fused to the aluminum...like, it isnt glued in there, it is MADE TO BE THERE...it is nice.

are 7000RPM fan really more efficient than under RPM fan eg a 4800RPM

theoretically yes, but in the practice ?
