I'm building an absurd PC for my roommate so we can take breaks from work during the day to game together. I've build a gaming computer before, and I think I have most of the parts and compatibility issues figured out, but I'm having trouble picking the right motherboard for my build. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. I'm trying to keep the total under $1,000, so the cheaper the better, but the biggest thing is making sure I pick a motherboard that's optimized for this build.

Here's the build:

CPU:
AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz 6-Core Processor

Motherboard:
???

Memory:
G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-2133 Memory

Storage:
Kingston SSDNow V300 Series 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
(I have extra drives laying around to format and add as well)

Video Card:
MSI Radeon R9 290 4GB TWIN FROZR Video Card

Case:
Thermaltake Level 10 GT Snow Edition ATX Full Tower Case

Power Supply:
EVGA SuperNOVA NEX 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply

I'm down to change pretty much any component of this build, so if anyone spots any issues or notices room for improvement, hook me up with your advice. Just let me know what you guys think, and thanks in advance.

Solution

What's your budget because the motherboard depends on how much you want to spend. A general recommendation is the Gigabyte GA970-d3p for 95 american dollars, the 990fx chipset isn't worth it. Might also want a cpu cooler maybe a hyper 212 evo.

Thanks Devouringbowl57, I appreciate the quick response.

My budget is around 1,000. The build so far (without a motherboard) is around 800. As for a CPU cooler, the AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz 6-Core Processor I have selected comes with one. I have this same processor in my personal PC and have had no problems with its included CPU cooler.

The Gigabyte GA970-d3p you recommended is looking pretty good to me. After checking it out, my only initial concerns relate to the mixed reviews on NewEgg and my inability to figure out how many fans it supports. The Thermaltake case I picked says it comes with 4 fans, but in some of the images I've seen there appears to be more than 4.
