I am in the process of building a new (and my first) PC. I have the Asus B150 pro gaming/aura motherboard (LGA1151 socket) and i was going with an i5 6600K for my processor but i just saw the i5 7600K and i am wondering if i should buy that instead. I would just like some help of the professionals out there and if both of hese processors would work with my motherboard. Thanks!

Solution
If you already have a B150 motherboard, there are two issues.

1. Is the bios level high enough to support kaby lake? Motherboards made after December 2016 are likely to be ok.
Otherwise, you will need to borrow a 6 gen cpu to do the flash, or pay a shop to do it for you.

2. B150 does not support overclocking a K processor so you are leaving performance on the table.

The 6600K runs stock at 3.4 and the 7600K runs stock at 3.8 so it is the better processor if the cost is equal.

To overclock a K, you will need a Z170 or Z270 based motherboard.
An overclock might be in the 20% range.

I would consider a Xeon w/ hyper-threading.

Xeons don't work on all LGA 1151 boards, they only work on boards with a C232 or C236 workstation chipset. Intel started locking the Xeons to the workstation chipsets with Skylake as they didn't like the fact that people were buying the Xeon E3 1231 V3 instead of the i7 4790/4790k.

Since a I5-7600K running at stock is a bit faster than a I5-6600k running at stock, and sells for a similar price, I would pick the i5=7600K.

With the proviso that you have a motherboard with the 3016 bios or later.
3016 was released 12/29/2016.
In the event that you have old stock B150 with a prior bios, you need to borrow a 6th gen processor that IS supported and use that to flash the bios to currency.
