The road to Tristram

I thought I'd start a thread about what we learned today about the uber
trio. Feel free to add your own input, corrections, strategy, etc.

The level contains an uber-meph, uber-baal, and uber-diablo.
with them are the following creatures:
Megademon. quintuple immune. only can be harmed with physical damage.
Vampires. PI
Skeletons. Includes pretty much every kind. melee & mage.

Town portal is disabled on the level. The original red portal that you
make is the only one you get.

All 3 uber-bosses make new monsters. They aren't revived. They are new
monsters. So things like nature's peace don't keep them from reeappearing.

Uber-diablo makes the balrogs appear I'm guessing. When Diablo and Baal
were dead no more appeared. D seems similar to the balrogs so makes
sense that it's him.
Baal makes the vampires appear. Again, none appeared when he was dead.
Meph makes skeletons appear.

I've noticed that when chased by meph, the skeletons pop up like weeds
wherever he roams. But, proximity to meph doesn't seem to be required
for them to pop up. They still appear far away but at much slower rate.
When I actually manage to stand on meph's toes for a few seconds, I
didn't notice skeletons being created very much. I'm not sure about
this though. Lots of people were in the area killing things. Plus I was
sorta busy at the time :).

Uber-bosses are not effected by 'prevent monster heal' items. I was
wearing nature's peace and they still healed. Someone in the game said
it was helping slow the healing. I didn't really notice a difference though.

Uber-meph has conviction. I have one point in salvation. +5 skills
brought it to level 6 for 88 resist. This was enough to bring me back
to max resists again.

That's it for now.
I'll add things on if I think of more. As will others I'm sure

~Demigodess~

P.S. thanks for all the effort of the people who attempted this.
sorry I can't list you all here but there were so many people going in
and out with diffferent characters, that I couldn't keep track of who
was there or not.

Do you and your group manage to kill all three, Bruce?

This new patch is rather unfair for the Hardcore players. We are ready
to open the Tristram portal, in fact we have gathered 3 sets of organs
to open the portal thrice. But we are waiting for more of our group to
show up since we are not sure which team combination will be the most
effective. In short, we are SCARED!

Nihlathak runs are scary enough, we do not do our runs without a Singer
Barb to cry all of us, and a level 38 Oak Sage & a RedeemerDin in our
party. Gathering the body parts are considerably easier than this.
But what lays ahead are not worth risking losing the level 95s in our
group.

So only one HellFire Torch is dropped per one Tristram run, correct?
Meaning that only the last uber will drop it? Do they regenerate
health quickly? Does Blessed Hammer hurt the MegaDemons, since BH
hurts Demons? I suppose the only way we can beat this in Hardcore is
by having an organized party, in which when one quits the game due to
low health, another takes over immediately.

Thanks.

No, 4. There are 6 uber monsters total-only 4 need by killed to get the
charm.

Lillith is the third. The Meph with Conviction is one of the 2 that don't
need to be killed.

No, Lillith is one of the FIRST three you must kill(the equivalant of Uber
Izzy and Uber Duriel). After killed Lillith, Izzy, and Duriel, THEN you open
the portal to Tristram. Inside is Uber Diablo, Meph, and Baal. Killing
Diablo will get you the charm, the other 2 don't HAVE to die in order to get
it.

Actually, Uber Diablo drops it, regardless of when you kill him. In other
words, focus all effort on him first, when he dies grab the charm, and you
really have no reason to kill the other 2 aside from the challenge of it.

So these "flags",from what I understand, everyone who was in the game
gets it? What does it look like? What does it do? Is it merely for
bragging rights? Screenshot please? :)

2nded. Meph as the last standing of the three, dropped the charms for
me. Possibly a late server side fix as I guess people were just
luring Diablo out and taking him out for the charm and leaving the
rest.

Thanks to Short and no thanks to the Summoner, I got into Tristram
this evening. Only needed to open 2 portals to get all the pieces
needed to get into Tristram as I already had 2, so Short got Diablo's
horn in thanks for donating a summoners key.

Well, being as it was the first time there, we skulked around the
outskirts for a bit, until we ended up close enough to draw Meph out.
I was with my Smiter and was doing pretty well, got Meph down to about
1/3 life pretty quickly, but all the skeletons popping up were laying
into me to and alas I went down. Multiple deaths followed as I made a
few corpse runs, and a couple of times exited the game and came back
in to get the corpse back, though one of those times was also because
charge stopped working and that really throws me off.

Short managed to draw Baal out somewhere along the line, so while Meph
was down in one corner watching over where my body had disappeared
from, over on a far side of town I got stuck into Baal and put him
down with no real worries. Having gotten that sorted out I moved in
towards the centre of town and took out Diablo, again without any
trouble. It was about this time that I swapped out the Crown of Ages
for a Kira's Guardian. I'd say the extra 44 resist all helped as my
life wasn't bouncing around quite so much in my rematch with Meph.
Also quite helpful there was Short's sorc who was keeping the skelly
numbers down. And so, Meph, outmatched by this team, went down.

The charm could have been better. +3 druid skills? Well, I guess I
do have a windy druid who could use it. It did come with +18 all
stats and +20% res all, so in that regard it was pretty good. I think
my smiter will hang on to it for a while though for the extra resists.
I expect he'll be facing off against Uber Meph a few more times yet!
: )

One thought Short and I had was to combo a smiter with a BO/Grim Ward
Barb. The grim ward to keep all the small fry away while the smiter
whoops the uber evils like the proverbial red headed step children
they are. Hmm, throw in Berserk on the Barb for dealing with the
physical immunes and those two should be all you need to clean out
Tristram.

I can say me and Ashen (ashen mostly) were able to get rid of them,
though with multiple deaths.

My sorc ended up blasting the Skeletons with Fireball to keep them busy
while he took off the big baddies. I say if you can split everything
up its a lot easier. My Throwbarb took out several of the Elemental
Immunes then I switched back to the Sorc so I could attack more than
one monster at a time.

Short, what, then would you think of a Singer Barb? With dual Wizzies,
Viper, Nat Res, he could load up on resists. His job would mainly be to
just keep all the minions stunned while others concentrated on the u3.
Of course, providing BO wouldn't be the worst thing either.

I was thinking a similar thing, except instead of stunning the baddies,
run around, howl, taunt, and pop up grim wards all over the place. It
doesn't really matter how many minions those three create, if every
minion is running away as fast and as far as they can! With a few well
placed grim wards, and a diligent barb to keep the lesser evils at bay,
the remainder of the team should be able to take out the big bosses
relatively undisturbed.

It's not glamorous to play a support role, but you do what you've got
to do!

Very interesting. I'd like to believe that there is more to it than
bragging rights. As it is, it's like getting an ear from pvp. I mean
who really cares who has what ear? If perhaps the character who is
holding it in their stash will glow no matter what items they are
wearing, then THAT would be a good way to show your accomplishment.

Indeed, that requirement is pretty baffling. If it was just a trophy, like
an ear, why have a requirement? I've never seen an ear with a lvl
requirement on it...

I'm thinking you're right and it's used in a cube recipe or something. I
know 1 guy who tried to socket his in an item(no success), keeping it in
inventory appears to do nothing, it's not equippable(at least, I assume it's
not, has anybody tried putting it in ring/ammy slots?), so...

I agree that players on the red team haven't been getting too much "love" in

-50% PDR for Decrepify (-100% PDR for Amplify Damage), I thought. Could be
wrong, though.

Does conventional life steal work on those ubers, or just life tap (which
would be lost having decrepify active on the uber instead, of course)

Sounds like you had a fun, albeit long, day.

Word in the game is that the SoH's stop xp loss when you die. I can't

That flag looks identical to the flags used in CE.

Right click on a flag produces a "valuable elixer" which boosts life,
mana, and stamina for a few minutes.

3 of them and a rare shield cause the shield to reflect physical damage
against a melee attacker.

But that's CE...
