Hello!

Just to confirm, the Titan X does in fact, need 24GB of RAM minimum to work "stably" and that's just for gaming. For processes other than that (heavier work) you may need more. I just spoke to someone from NVidia itself and he/she clarified it for me.

I just thought I'd let you guys know because there is a lot of doubt going on all over the place that it was just a typo and that the manual was correct. That's not the case, 24GB is a minimum requirement for the card to run STABLE.

EDIT: Here is the exact thing they told me:

"GeForce GTX Titan X is itself a 12 GB card. So minimum amount of RAM required to support this card is 24 GB. If you have lesser amount of RAM, the card will still run but the entire GPU memory will not get utilized. It will get limited to 4 GB or lesser amount. We received some users who had less than 24 GB of RAM installed and the PC was showing up VRAM only as 4 GB. The OS will limit the VRAM if the system RAM is less than 24 GB. So as a result, it will be of no use having a 12 GB card installed in the machine. The system RAM will not be able to support 12 GB VRAM. And it will yield only 4 GB VRAM as available dedicated graphics memory. Since you are going to get such a powerful card with 12 GB VRAM, it will be of no use running it on 8 GB ( however, 8GB is really a good amount for other NVIDIA cards). So best is to get the RAM upgraded and enjoy the performance of the card."?

tom's ran the sample they got with 16 gb ram and did not have any issues. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/nvidia-geforce-gtx-titan-x-gm200-maxwell,4091-2.html test system listed as 16 gb. i am not sure where this "doubt" is as i have not heard any such thing but multiple reviews i have read so far have said nothing about this.

we'll have to wait and see when they get in stores but i have seen nor heard anything about this "requirement"

The requirement is on their own website and doubts do exist. I'm not saying that the card is going to explode if you run it with 16GB RAM, but it's a requirement for it to run stable over time. Performance issues may start to show. That's what I was told, you can contact them yourself if you want.

:heink:

I've used 11 GB of Vram when gaming and I didn't have any issue's with 16 gb of system ram...
There must be a better and more detailed explanation.

Hey there!

I have been told that you will not experience problems right away, but prolonged use of the card will bring out performance issues such as stuttering and what not.

I think your best bet is to speak to them on live chat or some other way.

Here's the link to the live chat: http://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/chat/chat_launch

Thx, I spoke to Nvidia and the engineers will provide a detailed explanation for me.. I'm waiting for a reply

Sorry but the 295x2 pretty much beats the doors off the titanX in every test toms did and the 295x2 is 2 290x cards in sli on a single PCB which the 780ti beats so there for 2 780ti's is sli are faster than 2 290x's which means they are faster than the titanX nice try though.

Which means your "better" gaming experience you speak of makes no sense. My sli setup works flawlessly and has never let me down yet. So I don't know what you mean by provides "better gaming experience" since it's slower. Sure it's cool a single gpu competes kinda close to 2 older cards but just like the other Titan it's gonna get the pants beat off it when the 980ti comes out in June then and will release their next cards and they'll beat the pants off it in gaming and cost less. Just like the 780's and 780ti's and 280's and 290x's

Everyone is getting so wrapped up in this vram stuff its funny really. Didnt titan fall say you had to have like 8gb vram to run it? Clearly it runs fine on 2gb and up cards maxed out. Does extra vram help? Yes but if it was THAT big of a deal higher than 4gb cards would have flooded the market LONG ago. Look at the 6gb titan.......it got smoked by 780's some 770's and many other variants with half the vram. Not alot of games use vram like they make you think. They will before too long i totally agree but for whats out right now? Saying 3gb isnt enough for current titles? False statement.

I suggest you read tech report review Maxwell is a much better architecture for gaming. According to the tech report the 290x is beating the 780 ti these days in fps...

Nvidia is focusing on the 980 which is now significantly faster than both the 780 ti and 290x... I owned the 980 and 780 ti before upgrading to the Titan X.,

In regards to Titanfall the game plays a lot better on a 980 or Titan x unless you reduce the textures and or AA when using the 780 ti...

I don't know about you man, but 3GB isn't enough for me on 1080p let alone 1440p. If you're fine with a 3GB card, that's fine, but that does not justify you labeling the Titan as a POS.

Titan X is an amazing card. Every card will eventually be beat. Also why are you comparing dual GPU to a single GPU? The Titan X is the best single GPU card in the market right now, that is a FACT. Yes, the price isn't all that great, sure. But the performance is there. I personally hate SLI setups, I prefer a single card. There are many who prefer a single card. So that's up to them which way they want to go.

As for the 980TI, we have absolutely NO Idea. Heck, specs aside, we don't even know if the card is going to come out. No one knows anything, everyone is basing things on rumors. Btw the 980TI will also eventually be beat by another card.

My guess is that 24 GB+ System ram is needed when using 4k or multiple 2k monitors however on a single 2k monitor I should be golden lol

I just interested how to calculate the right amount of ram...

Actually I will have to find the link but I just read the 980ti has been announced for a June release. I was referring to if you read the post that for the price the 295x2 was a much better purchase for gaming hands down. The 295x2 clock for clock beats the titanX in every test toms did at 1440 and 4k. Also the 780ti by itself was able to hold right at or higher than 60fps in every game pretty much that was out during its launch time and most there after. Point is the titanX for gaming is not a wise choice of card at $999 or more when amd's cheaper single PCB (dual gpu) card is faster. Thats my whole point.

I respect your opinion. I agree that this card may not be the best in terms of price to performance, but that doesnt stop tons and tons of people buying it. I generally prefer NVidia over AMD (don't shoot me plz) and am ok with getting 24GB RAM. I understand completely though, that it could be a factor in people not wanting to get it. It's up to the person, but the Titan X is a beastly card with more than enough VRAM. It's a solid option for people who prefer NVidia, don't mind the price-tag, need the Vram and want a single card to dominate any game you throw at it.

The primary purpose of this card is gaming lol
