THE TOWER OF DOOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK so here is my current situation, my cpu is dieing (probably has something to with it running at 3.2 ghz for 5 months). It generates tons of heat and has to be kept a below 35c for it to be stable. How does one keep a dieing cpu at 35c? the answer is 8, that's right 8, 80mm fans duct taped in a stack, put on top of the heatsink, and plugged directly into the power supply. With the tower (of doom), Ive never seen my cpu get more than 3c above room temp ,
(ive seen it get to 23c before) 😱 :wahoo: :wahoo: :wahoo: .

Without further ado here it is(sorry about the blurriness my very expensive camera didn't like me today) =======

it's very tall(and loud) 😀

i dont think ill be putting the side back on my case anytime soon

extreme cable management :kaola:

yes, the heat sink does in fact have LEDs in it.

Only 14.......

Now, if anybody can top that, ill give them a virtual high five!!!!!!

Now the images are fixed, and i figured out why my pictures are blurry! my camera was set to "outside distance mode" which doesnt work well for taking close up pictures inside :kaola:

yeah no pics 🙁

35 c... whys it have to be under that? You probably have another issue like a bad cpu... which makes since if its dying :na:... but i'd see if I couldn't get an RMA on that... unless you like having the TOWER OF DOOM,

You could also consider watercooling... you get great temps with that... and you could have the side panel on :na:

That's also something I noticed with google image hosting, some people will be able to see them, others won't.

Apparently rawsteel can see them, while thogrom and myself cannot.

Eazy-E you should be able to find another url for those images that looks different, try to find and post them if you don't mind. I REALLY want to see that TOWER OF DOOM.

Oh, sorry about the pictures, ill move them somewhere else 😉 .
as for the cpu its an amd athlon x2 4600+ (2.4 ghz) and i dont think i can rma it because its a year and a half old.

As for you rawsteel, i do have Parkinsons ,so be nice 😀 .

Apparently using thermal grease other than the stuff in the amd box will void your warranty 😱 😱 😱 😱 😱 😱 😱 😱 😱 😱 😱 (seriously) 😱 😱 😱 😱 😱
So ive used a different thermal grease and and overclocked it 30%, i dont think amd will be happy if i try to rma it.
(Of course how will they know? :kaola: :kaola: :kaola: :kaola: :kaola: ) MUWAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All you will be doing with that find of setup is making a heck of a lot of noise and creating a vacuum effect. The bearing on those fans will be stuffed after a small amount of time.

Just because you have 8 fans at ~100CFM strapped together doesnt give you ~800CFM out the other end.

Found this link 4 ya http://hothardware.com/News/AMD%2DSneak%2DPeeks%2DPhenom%2DII%2DOverclocks%2DTo%2D5GHz/

That way you could keep your old MoBo + your cpu cooler.
It'already AMD compatible. ROGLOL !!!

chookman, i thought the fans when attached to each other were raised to the power of the number of fans...

IE: 8 fans... = 100 cfm ^ 8

:na: uber coolage

Dieing = dying.

And Chookman has a very good point, just having 8 fans taped to each other doesn't mean you get the cumulative sum of all fans' rated CFM speed. You are very likely seeing fans below others being hampered by the fact that they don't all run the same speed, or increasingly faster speeds to push the volume of air above them into the blades of the fan below.

Ebay my friend...time for a new (used) CPU if you have to resort to something like this. I like the DIY concept, but in reality, you would get better results with fewer fans.

Yes i know its very inefficient but 8 fans keeps it 6 degrees cooler than 4 fans, which is a huge difference in this situation. Also the temps on this thing are rising about a degree every 3 days or so. I just hope i can keep it alive for a month until Christmas. =(
