maybe they can create a hybrid version of the TRUE. Like making most of it out of copper and the rest is aluminum. That would help out with the weight issue. Maybe they can make one with heatpipes around the entire square thingy, or a new design that has less weight.

or they can do HDT on those copper heatpipes and the fins are still alluminium and bigger.that would be nice.make those heatpipes dimensionbigger but thinner on the copper itself then it would be brilliant!

good idea, but I wonder if it would be posible for Mobo makers to incorporate stronger support, ex: something like hooks secured into the back of the mobo, I'm not very good at explaining what I meant but hopefuly you get most of it

or support in cases, you sorta tie down your heat sink to the case

From what I know the TRUE already has a copper base and copper heatpipes.
The fins are made of aluminium and then the entire cooler is nickelplatted. People lapping it have shown a copper base contact surface.

On the mounting sollution.
Or create a case with a mounting point for a custom LGA backplate that screws directly into the motherboard tray. You then need a custom backplate for a specific motherboard model.

The problem with all these ideas is as always cost. The sollution is to use zipties and a hard wire support frame or buy a cooler with a backplate and hope it doesn't break the motherboard.

Another alternative would be something like the Zalman TNN case with custom heatpipe mounts.

all sounded familiar and i do agree with you the cost issue.i wish i know how to make cpu cooler!lol

but the current TRUE is not HDT.if it is then i think it will whoop any coolers ass.

The TRUE has other issues. It's flatness for instance.
HDT is all nice. The quality (look and feel) of the XIGMATEK compared to the TRUE however is low at best. I guess it shows the 2:1 price advantage.

I would get a TRUE again if I were buying today.

A full copper TRUE will perform better than the current TRUE today, no doubt about that. However, the gains in temp would NOT justify the extreme weight and price.

My guess is that temps would go down by at most 5C. Any guesses?
