My PC Specs:
CPU - i7 4790K @ 4.2GHz
GPU - Gigabyte GTX 970 G1
RAM - 4x2 (8GB)
MOBO - MSI (forgot name, but Good Enough)
MO RES - 2560 x 1440p @ 144Hz
--------------------------
Okay, so the last time I played TW2 was over 3 1/2 years ago. At that time, I had been running a weaker build, more notably my cpu (i7 4820) and two SLI gpu's (GTX 570 HD's). I could run the game nearly maxed out with uber-sampling disabled on 1920x1080p (@ 60Hz) with fps averaging literally around 55-60. Now with an even more sophisticated and powerful build, I can't seem to break 15 frames per second even on the lowest settings with my resolution downscaled to 1920x1080p, no difference at 1280x720p, which is beyond stupid seeing that I use a 1440p monitor. In fact, no matter what changes I seem to make in the graphics settings config, my fps won't break or drop lower than 15fps... even with uber-sampling enabled. (continued)
Over the course of a couple of hours trying to troubleshoot the problems myself. I managed to figure out that the primary cause of my fps drops were due to the fact that my GPU's core clock speeds would drop all the way down to 540MHz automatically whenever I launch a new game or tutorial on TW2. My core clock speeds are around and over 1500MHz, which is very stable and hasn't crashed since that clock speed was implemented. Seeing how I've dealt with more gpu intensive games in the past compared to TW2, I find it hard to believe that my *not even maxed out graphic settings* is causing my GPU to cliff dive down to 540MHz. In fact, no matter what I do, even resetting my core clock to factory settings, TW2 still locks me at 540MHz whenever I instantly load into a game or start the tutorial. I believe I've tried everything I could possibly think of, such as locking my monitor refresh rate to 60Hz, and other various performance tweaks, but still to no avail.
Just like everyone else, whenever your core clock cliff dives to the lowest or "safest" clock setting, you gotta restart your computer... Every. Single. Time. = Stupid.
So, anyone know of any fixes for this issue, which could allow me to actually play The Witcher 2?
