You may want to re think the GHz edition 7970. Apparently you can overclock regular 7970's to about the same speed saving $50.

So maybe get a quality 7970 and overclock it.

You might be able to find a Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition card selling in the $400 range, and if you do, it might make a good buy. But for the $450 most GHz Edition cards are currently selling for, we'd skip them. As they stand, the Radeon HD 7970s are already pretty overclockable, meaning you can coax much of that performance from a cheaper card anyway.---

Ask two people, get three answers. I sort of like Gigabyte with their signature three fan cooling solution. It keeps the chip cool so it will be more reliable and can be overclocked more and will run with less noise.
