i know their arn't alot of 1440, 2160,2540, 4000, or 4320 tvs out their....... but theoretically lets say hook your ps4 up to a monitor

would it be able to do 1440, 2160 resolution for its games

if not? why...is the hardware to weak?

The PS4 wouldn't handle a 1440p resolution very well, it just isn't powerful enough. If you connect your PS4 up to your monitor you will get 1080p quality (or 900p, or 720p, or whatever the game uses by default), no PS4 games run natively at 1440p as far as I know.

too weak? i thought the ps4 gpu was strong enough to run 1440

Console gamers are stuck with the GPU included. Developers are not going to just let you push the envelope of the console hardware. They will error on the side of play-ability every time using the most optimized settings they have available.

PC gamers have the freedom to upgrade their GPU/CPU hardware and therefore are given un-restricted access to more bells and whistles within a game... including more resolutions as well as advanced setting eye-candy options.

I wouldn't say the GPU is "too weak". It is more like they have made a decision to target a wider market which is 1080P & 720P displays. They code for those resolutions at a target FPS. They will add eye candy features until they have hit the threshold where those eye candies now degrade the target FPS at those resolutions.

Oh it probably can technically handle it, but it wouldn't do it very well. If you've got developers making 30fps games for 900p, you're probably not going to have games at 1440 on that machine!
