"There is a problem with the installer package"

My PC is P4/2.4 and uses Windows XP (NOT SP2 just yet). I am having trouble
with "missing or corrupted ntoskrnl.exe" and this is a clean install from
the PC vendor's Windows disk.

In order to Restore all my files and data I must install my backup software
(Backup MyPC from Stomp Software. The installation goes OK until the very
end. I then have a dialog box, "Completing the Stomp Backup MyPC Wizard"
with a Finish button. When the Finish button is clicked I receive the
following.

"There is a problem with this installer package. A program required for this
install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or
package vendor."

My Question: "Is this required program a Windows program or one from Stomp?"

Peter.

Hi, Peter;

According to
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/en-us/msi/setup/windows_installer_error_messages.asp
that error most probably indicates an issue with the MS Installer 2.0 files.

Here is an article that has several methods for troubleshooting that
problem:

You probably should download/install this update first, even though it says
it is for SP2.

Hi Sky King.

I haven't been to these sites yet but they do look interesting. I'll follow
up ASAP.

Many thanks.

Peter.
