Computer: Dell XPS 8500, OP: Win 7. When my computer is idol, I get the following message "There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive\device\harddrive 4\DR4." Why am I getting this warning and how do I stop it? I assume it is because I see a number of (4) removable disk drives. They are a result of plugging in a thumb drive or passport and manually unplugging instead of right-click-eject. I assume the computer is still looking for them. So, how do I stop the warning and loose the removable devices? NO, I no longer have the thumb drives.

Solution
You should not be getting that message unless something was trying to read or write to that drive. Have you rebooted the computer? Do you have anything like an automatic backup that you used to go to that missing drive?

What windows comes up with that message? There should be a title on it that can give you a clue what is trying to use the drive.

Doing a virus/spyware scan is a good idea, install Malwarebytes, update it. Reboot the computer in Safe Mode and run the full scan with the program.
