there is something wrong with my 4TB extrenal hardrive

it says that i only have 244GB left when i have only filled up about 600 - 700 GB i have no idea were th rest of the memory has gone because i only use this hard drive for my steam folder which is 600-700 GB in size

check your hidden files (do not remove them, if anything looks strange, google it), perform a chkdisk on the drive

Also - in addition to the hidden files check - check the total space that drive has according to your system.

It is possible for a drive of 4 TB to only partition 1 TB. This means you do have a 4 TB drive but a 1 TB partition in use and 3 TB of space unused. All space not partitioned does not show up to your OS.

If it says (drive properties) total space 4 TB, free space 244GB then all is partitioned. If it says total space 1 TB, free space 244GB check to make sure you have a 4 TB drive. If the drive is 4 TB and your system says 1 TB, you need to enlarge the partition or create additional partitions.

For external drives it is pretty uncommon to be partitioned in multiple drives. It cannot however hurt to check this.
