Hello.. i have Zalman ZM-STG2 Thermal Grease since 2 years.. and now i've just realized that my i5-3470 CPU Temp is 80c+ under load, and 45c on idle..

i wanted to know the expiring date of thermal paste.. will it be okay if i applied my 2 years old Thermal on the cpu?

Solution

Hi,

Then I think it is okay to apply it but keep an eye on the temp, if you think something wrong went like getting higher temp than what you expected turn off your PC...
Hi,

I am not sure about this but, I would get a new one if:
1- The thermal has expiration date and is expired
2- The thermal saving was not the best in term of temp...etc.

The worst thing can happen is the CPU temp instead of dropping it might jump higher or stay the same, but wouldn't risk that.

For me I would just get a new one and apply it, if the thermal paste would solve the heating problem.

Regards,

thank you.. i think you got me wrong, i didn't Applied any Thermal yet, i've just bought my thermal paste since around 2 years and i wanted to know when does thermals get Expired

thank you.. my thermal paste does not have ay expiration date written on it. also i didn't use it before, it still on its box.. and its in my room.

thank you.. actually the old one is the stock Thermal, i didn't Applied a new thermal before, and i have my build since 4 years.. i did clean my CPU fan with an air duster from a while, Temps Dropped from 78c to 68c under load..
but it wasn't a high cpu intensive game.. i guess if i played more demanding games CPU temp will jump to 75c+
