Thermal paste Hardware Store Subsitute ?

Is there a Alternative to Thermal paste you can Buy at your local Hardware Store if ya need to replace the bonding between cpu and heatsink ? I was told back in the day there was something electricians used but don't know.

Ok I like that as a quick Fix but not a good fix will go buy some Artic Silver in 5X the amounts.
