[SOLVED] Thermal paste question

I installed a new ryzen 5 5600x 3 days ago and used the stock cooler that came with thermal paste. However, I bricked my motherboard when my bios updated and I ordered a new one. Do I need to re-apply thermal paste when I transfer my cpu to a new motherboard? Or should I buy some thermal paste online?

the thing is I will have to wait an extra 2-3 days after my motherboard comes in and will have to wait if that’s the case.

You should remove all existing paste and reapply new paste after any time you remove the cooler.
So youll need to buy more. Depending on where you are located some retailers (best buy) have thermal paste in stores, so no wait.

But tl;dw, you don't have to apply new paste every time the cooler pops off, especially if the paste hasn't been used that long. I would say in a pinch, sure, you can reuse it. But if you can, use a new application.
