I am getting ready to build my new pc and i want to know what is your recomended method for best results in temps plz vote.

Just follow the directions that come with the HSF or thermal compound.

Well when I applied some Arctic 5 Silver to my gpu, I just spread a fair sized glob in the middle, then used a metal butter knife and carefully spread as if toast.

Careful you don't scratch the surface...
Why a butter knife? It's not even flat.

EDIT: The first option seems to be the popular one. My question is, exactly what amount should be used? Seems difficult to me.
