hi,
I'm on the verge of buying a new PC and I've got on last question. I'm taking a Q6600 and antec 900, Should I take a thermalright 120a or the extreme version? (We don't have xigmatec here in israel)

you can get an o-ring for mounting am2 clip hsf's into an intel board.

check www.frostytech.com. there are several coolers equivalent to the TRUE that perform nearly identically:
Xigmatek s1283, s1284EE
Sunbeamtech Core Contact Freezer
Silenx iXtreme IXC 120ha2
etc.

I don't like any thermalrights because they are twice as expensive for the same design and don't include fans. the sunbeam and silenx also include fan speed controllers.

Hi.

I know this is quite an old thread but I found it yesterday by searching "Thermalright 120A" into google as I was trying to decide between the 120A and the 120 Extreme. I very nearly bought the Extreme version after reading the comment quoted above but I later found out that the comment is wrong.
The A version will fit on both socket AM2 and LGA775. The only difference between the 120A and the Extreme is the latter has two more heatpipes which actually only make 1-2 degree difference.
So in that sense the extra £13 for the Extreme version is not worth it IMO.

I just wanted to add that incase other people read the comment and buy the Extreme version like I almost did.

for one thanks for the stupid necro (also known as a VERY Large bump)....greatly appreciated
And if u kno its old y bring it up??

For 1) it is more than a 1-2 Degree difference...the frostytech review is not good for the TRUE because they did not lap the surface which the Extreme version needs. Otherwise it does create a substantial difference with high CFM fans for those that want to rly OC their cpus.

2) There was a time when the 120 was Intel and old AMD sockets. They then released the A version for AM2. So in that sense, the A was released for Amd builds.

And for u it may be a 13 (i dont have a Euro key) but here, there is almost no difference in price (most stores dont even sell the A), so in your Opinion its not worth it but ur conditions are different than others.

if you're using push/pulls fans on a TRUE you may as well get the black, as:
1: the base is flatter than the original
2: it comes with another set of fan clips, which cost pretty much the same as the original true+extra fan clips

No Venom u gotta get the super cool COPPER EDITION!!!! :bounce:
