Hey everyone, so I installed the heatsink onto my Q6600 but I'm really not sure how to install the fan. I looked at the instructions but I'm lost on how to get the clips onto the heatsink, and then how to put the fan onto the clips. Any ideas or tips?

Also, my idle temps are in the mid 30's with prime95 pushing them up to the mid 50's. Do you think this is acceptable for a standard clocked Q6600? Thanks for the help!

Those temps are too high for using a TR extreme, need to lap the heatsink and cpu.

If all else fails with the fan clip, use a paper clip and improvise. They probably work better.

are those temps without a fan?

Use a paper clip and improvise! lol, i dont think so,Take your time ask around and look around online for some diagrams and do it properly, dont use paper clips and make some thing of a mijig.I know you mean well Eviloigiri but i dont recommend that for a fan installation sorry.

im going to be installing this soon, i have 2x120mm fans, first is it better to have 2 attached? and if so, where can i get more brackets, i only have 2 which is for one fan right?

Thanks

You don't need 2, read a review a while back that says push/pull (2 fans) on the TRUE barely did anything to the temps, don't even think there was a change in temperature.

I heard too that adding a second fan didn't make much difference. However if you create a tunnel effect by closing all gaps with tape and pieces of cardboard like the sides of the cooler and the gaps between the top of the fans and the top of the cooler, improvements were much more significant. Because of that, air can only move in one way: pushed in by fan 1, through the heatsink and then pulled out by fan 2. Google it and you'll find more about it.

I'm wondering how long after you started the prime95 stress test, you recorded that temps? Did you run the maximum heat production test?
