I have the instructions for here and it says to place a 12cm fan on the heatsink yet it doesn't include one. Do you need to install a 12cm fan on this for it to work properly?

Deuce,

Honestly, you do not need an additional 12cm fan to run with your Ultra-120 Extreme, but I would not. Everything I have read says the 120 will run hotter than a stock HSF if it does not have the fan. I have NOT personally tested it, but there are many great articles that explain it. I just built a rig with a 120 eXtreme, threw a Scythe S-flex fan on it, and things stay plenty cool; 47 C at max load for a Q6600.

Here is the one I went with: http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16835185006

I would definitly put a good fan on there. Any type of fan will help, but the 120 is built just right to attach a 12cm fan! You can get a decent fan for under 10 bux, or a great one for 15. Everything depends on how cool you want to run, but if you're buying a 120 eXtreme, I am willing to bet you want to keep things cool as possible.

Just a heads up, if you buy it from newegg, make sure you grab the bulk discount and buy at least 2. You can always find something to do with a spare!
