Hi all
Im running an A64 3500 winnie with an XP120 and an Akasa Ultra Quiet 120mm Fan.
these are the temps:
idle cpu 37
sys 27
load cpu 51
sys 32
Do these temps sound a bit hot? I thought I would be getting lower temps with this hsf. Could it be due to the quiet fan? oh and cool n quiet is turned off.

Those temps aren't too high...would have thought they would be lower with that HSF, but they aren't too high.

Temps always go up when you OC. Did you lap the HSF before installing? Use AS5 and burn it in?

I use Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound I also polish up both the hs and the cpu with a lintfree cloth and then rub in some tim to the hs. I then apply about the size a grain of tim to the cpu.

Those temps are warm, but not too bad.

Sounds like that fan is a bit feeble, but that's what you get with 'ultra-quiet' I guess.

For comparison, my rig (see below) has an XP-120, and my usual temps are 43C load (sys ~25C), but if I switch the fan down to 5V (I have switches for this) then my load temp goes up to around 55C.

I can't remember the make of the fan, but it's a 'normal' 120mm (not especially quiet or especially loud/high performing) with some UV LEDS (it was the only 120mm fan available from the same site when I got the XP-120 and I was in a hurry ). I <i>think</i> it's either ~80CFM or ~60CFM.

Do you know the CFM rating of that fan?

Mind you, these are temps with a 25% OC of course

Might be worth removing the HS, cleaning the CPU & HS base properly and re-seating with some AS5 or something.

That's not very much for an A64. was fine for an XP, as you only had the die area to cover, but you've got the whole IHS on these things.

I just made sure I had a nice thin layer over the whole surface.

Most Abit boards do read high. Just make sure the clamps on the hsf are fully engaged.

Well...with my xp90 and my 3000+ @ 2.4ghz, i get 37c idle, 44c load...My 3500+ 130nm, was running load 52c @ 2.4ghz stock hs. Chipset runs 40-44c. My room temp runs about 80f...i have 5 80mm fans in the case tho too, not mentioning the 2 in the psu.

So yea, it's probably Reading high. Whether its actually running hot or not...i'd definately reseat it, and chk temps again.
