thermaltake 680W is it worth the cost $180 !!!

Yes it is worth it if
*You are making a hungry, power PC
*Save PSU for another future upgrade
*Insist on nothing, but the best
*You like to give money to Thermaltake
*You want to show off
*Money is not the issue
*You are space alien & wants TT PSU to power your UFO

Ha Ha...

I think it reigns in as the best PSU quality/performance you can buy.
Won't be long, and I will have one.
Moz has one, and says it runs cool and quiet also...

I wish that I had the money or resources to go out and buy some of the competitions PSU's. There is little doubt in my mind that this is the king of the hill in PSU's at the momment. The fact that its 680W is not what makes it the best IMO even though that is certainly a positive. The rails are rock solid. I have never seen rails this solid. As we speak I have an Antec, a Sparkle, a Thermaltke 480, and a generic 450W. All except the generic are what I consider to be top of the line PSU's. They cant keep up with this Thermaltake 680W. Not only is it the new split rail PSU but instead of 2 +12V rails it has 3. Its quite, and doesnt generate the amount of heat that any of the others do simply because it doesnt work as hard. Is it Overkill? Only you can decide that, but I consider this piece of equipment the best performing peice of hardware in my system, and that is saying alot. If you want to see proof I can e-mail you all the graphs that you want. I have been recording the second by second flucutations of each rail since the minute I turned it on. I would buy one again in a New York second.

i believe you guys that this is a good psu
but i wanna think that 180 is a lot of money
because for like 100 i can get an antec case with a psu

hear me now, believe me later, trust me in between
i`m a cop you idiot
i`ll be back

It is alot of money. You can plenty of power in a PSU for much less. I was just letting you know that the 680 is worth it if you are looking at something of this quality.

You better makeSure that your not getting a generic PSU if your looking at a case and PSU combo for that amount of money. I cant imagine you getting very much of a PSU for that.

i agree this is a good psu
it seems to have some future proofing
i`m a big fan of well built monsters
like adcom amps and stuff like that
so i`ll prob get this psu
just don`t know when i`ll build my dream pc

I think that if you want:

a CPU...buy from a CPU manufacturer
a RAM...buy from a RAM manufacturer
a Monitor...buy from a monitor manufacturer
a Hard Drive...buy from a hard drive manufacturer
a Video Card...buy from a video card manufacturer
a Motherboard...buy from a motherboard manufacturer

I'm not trying to be cute. Just pointing out that we often buy stuff from the manufacturer (or their representatives) where ever possible. For something as mission critical as a power supply it seems to me that you would want to do the same. TT doesn't make PSU's or even in the business so to speak. So see above...

TT make make a good supply, but who do you call for tech support? That's one of the reasons I started buying PCP&C products. Today I called an engineer about making some modifications to the AC circuit and didn't get greeted with "we don't talk about that kind of stuff" or "We will void your warranty if you pop the cover." No, I got the info I needed in about 3-4 minutes of my time and got busy doing what I wanted to do.

So is $180 good for the TT....no it isn't. You can get a PCP&C Turbo 510 Deluxe with PFC for only $197 + shipping :)

Why can't I just be a mundane and slog it out with the "good stuff" 😱

That sounded like an Infomercial. So exactly what are you basing your argument about the cost on.

Enermax 660W - $250.00
Athena 658W - $200.00
Zippy/E-max 770W $277.00
E-Power 600W - $168.00
Enermax 600W $169.00

That comes out to be around 32 cents a Watt. The 680W Thermaltake comes out to about 27 cents a Watt. Oh, but I forgot about the tech support for all the many questions that arise on ways to modify a PSU. Thats the best one I have heard in a long time. How many people modify PSU's? Better than that how many people have any business fooling around with a PSU in that way. Not many. As for taking care of their product. The first Thermaltake that I bought didnt have as much juice as I thought that it should on its 12V rail. I e-mailed Thermaltake and they got in touch with the store that I bought it from and had e-mailed me back in less than 3 days. They gave me the option to take it back to the store that I bought it from and get another one"They had already called the store and had it arranged so that I could do so" or I could send it back to them and they would send me another. I took it back to the store got another one and come to find out it was not the PSU it was the MOBO giving the wrong readings. The point is, they took care of me with no questions asked. Is thermaltake the best to buy? Across the board probably not. The question was "Is the 680W worth the money?" According to my calculations, it is cheaper per Watt than many of its rivals so as far as cost is concerned yes its worth it. As for stability, its rock solid and I have the data to prove it. It hasnt dropped below or even at its rated output per rail and I have recorded its constant output per rail the whole time that I have had it. The system that I have puts more of a strain on a PSU than most in the same category do.

The cable management on the TT's PSU is great as well - I've been thinking about modding a PSU to the do the same thing for a while, but TT have beaten me to it.

Are you referring to the the new 680W or their other ones. The 680W is even better.
