Thermaltake Riing Fans RGB w/o controller?

I have computer parts that would make using another controller unfavorable..
Do the fans still cycle RGB and light up without the controller?
I read somewhere they wont light up without the controller, or is that just to be in control of the lighting?

The 3 fan pack which hails under the RGB lineup does indeed require the proprietary 5 pin connector in order to have the fancy light show and maintain an RPM. The 5 pin connector sadly doesn't go into any port on a motherboard, PSU or GPU header(forget about after market fan controllers) except for the controller that the fans come with.

The 5 pin connector apparently takes care of the fans voltage, and the power for the RGB LED's. You'll notice that the controller has an option to change the speed between low, med and high and the next two buttons are for LED controls.
