THG bastardizes nVidia too

To complement Ape's URL to Tech-Report, now even our good Lars has an article. I must say, Gabe is like a Michael Moore of the graphics world, both physically and mentally!

It's a breath of fresh air that now companies are finally expressing themselves against what they do not like. I mean jeez, Carmack is VERY modest about nVidia's poor actions, but Gabe is attacking head on and expresses his annoyance. Definitely how it should be. nVidia now HAS to listen, it's gone public!

Oh and gotta admit though, the irony of seeing Gabe on a pedestal with an ATi cover and THG's logo near it, kinda doesn't help the rumors about him being paid by ATi, ROFL.

Finally Valve has a voice in the graphics card market.

Apparently Detonator 50's beta are the only appropriate drivers for benching Half Life 2 so says Nvidia. Wow beta drivers? That tells you that Nvidia is stretching for more performance.

It will be interesting to see how the Det. 50 optimizations are percieved by the consumer -Gabe N. doesn't like them because they are misleading and are "optimized" He also mentioned that he's seen drivers detect screen capture attempts and output higher quality data than what's actually shown in-game. As bad news as the HL2 performance figures are, I think that the Det 50's may generate even greater bad news. I really hope Nvidia removes anything suspect before these drivers are an official release.

I thought Valve said they want nothing to do with the new Det50's.

Yeah that's the new concensus, the Det 50s are indeed filled with wrong optimizations in the Beta.

Just when you thought nVidia did enough already. I swear they must be doing this on purpose to kill themselves like 3DFX!

Would you want a graphics card company to make your master piece look worse than you intended with their drivers, just so they can get decent frames? Its just one bad thing after another atm for Nvidea.

BTW have you guys notice the DX8 results?
Valve made the FX5600s and FX5200s run on DX8, but the performance results returned about 25FPS for the FX5600! The R9600 is still ahead for sure, especially if the Ultra has about 55FPS in DX8! I thought the FX5900 was at least the master of DX8.

Dear god, what is going on!

"NV35's CineFX II fixes the PS1.4 and up performance problems", LOL!
