I am unable to join the theif's guild for some reason, I think it might be
because I killed a thief at sometime in the game. Could that be the reason?
Is there anyway I can join the theif's guild at all?

chris

If the message is that you don't meet their standards or
qualifications then that's definitely it. Other than the console I
don't know if that's possible at all!

I don't think it would be that. If you've done lots of quests for the
Temple, or the Houses Redoran or Hlaalu, or the Imperial Legion, or
done the vampire quests, the Thieves Guild wouldn't want you, because
they don't like those groups.

Or if you've joined the Ashlanders they'd probably hate your guts! But
don't worry, they'll cool off in time, and let you in eventually.

I have the feeling you'd be suprised if you were to inspect some of the
game's internals -- something like joining a faction depends mostly upon
disposition. Nonadmission, when not caused by disposition or attributes
being too low (for the latter, I have only heard of one case where this
will happen -- namely, the East Empire Company; all factions in the
original
game should be joinable the second you step out of Census and Excise),
happens in only a couple of situations, the most notable of which (if not
the only ones) follow:

1) Attempting to join a great house when you are already a member of one

2) Attempting to join the Thieves' Guild when you have progressed far
enough into the Fighters' Guild (with the right questgivers at the right
time, that is -- look to the former guildmaster in Ald-Ruhn for more
information about that) to have done some Cammona Tong work.

Since you say you've killed a thief, Chris, I believe you have just been a
victim of the latter. Was that thief Sottilde, and did you do that to get
her
code book for Eydis Fire-Eye? If you want to do things the clean way,
either
load up a save before you completed this quest and try simply ignoring the
quest
(you will move past it soon enough -- once you get through the ranks of the
Thieves' Guild, Fire-Eye will suddenly not be so interested in matters
concerning the Cammona Tong) or, alternatively, load a save before you even
recieved the quest, recieve the topic "debt money" by completing Edryno
Arethi's
quests for House Hlaalu, and then speak with Fire-Eye about debt money and
she
will go right to the next quest.

If you just want the console code so you can fix this and put the matter
behind
you:

Thanks for the info. I was refused entry into the Thieves, after
successfully completing the fighter's guild quests, including stealing
Sottilde's code-book.
