Thinking about replacing these thing:

GPU (Doesn't have one currently): Zotac GeForce GT 610 - 2GB DDR3.

RAM: Upgrading to 4GB (Older is DDR2)

So I have a few questions. If my RAM memory is DDR2, does it matter if I get a Video Card that's DDR3/GDDR5? Or do I need to get the same type.

Obviously I won't do much with this upgrade but its for my sister who mostly plays Minecraft, TF2, Counter Strike: Global Offensive.

The new type of memory I am thinking about upgrading is to DDR3. Will this be compatible with my motherboard? My computer is Acer Aspire E1640. Thanks and have a good day/night!

Solution
The Geforce GT610 is little better than the current on-board graphics.

Video RAM (GDDR) is completely separate from System Memory (DDR). You can use any Video RAM version graphics card with any System RAM version (i.e. GDDR5 graphics card will work just fine with a DDR2 system).

Your motherboard will dictate what version of System Memory you can use. DDR3 System RAM is not compatible with DDR2 System RAM motherboards.

Check your system model number. I'm having difficulties locating that model. Provide a link to the system if you can.
