Well i decided today I'd finally overclock my e8400 to 3.6ghz so i went into the bios and pumped the FSB up to 400 and the multiplier to 9 so =3.6ghz
i have 4 sticks of 800mhz DDR2 ram each 1 gigabyte, i used one of my mobo's preconfigured overlcock settings for my memory and it boots and runs stable just one quick question i have. When i right click "My Computer" and view properties
ocke0.jpg

So did i just overclock one of the cores??? or is it suppose to show up like that o_O

EDIT: put a pic with CPU-Z up.

Use CPU-Z to check your CPU. http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php
also you can use Prime95 or Orthos to stress your cpu and see if it is stable.

yep it looks like you got the overclock. now you just need to run one of the stress programs i mentioned and see if it really is stable. i had my E6750 overclocked to 3.00GHz and the computer would boot up just fine, but when i went and ran orthos, one of the cores would fail after just a few minutes.

Say what are you using as a theme? i have been looking for something like that, but most of the ones i have found dont look all that great.

might have been a bad idea upon reflection x_X

what would be my best course of action then?

EDIT: orthos failed after 5 minutes but i've been running Prime95 for 15 and nothings gone wrong O_O?

ok well when you overclock you have to do so in small increments. i belive the recommended is 10% at a time, checking to see if your processor is running stable after each 10% increase. so i would suggest starting all over again. this is a LONG process. here are some links i looked up that should help some. http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/240001-29-howto-overclock-quads-duals-guide
http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/247006-28-running-full-speed-wrong-multiplier

ok tell us how it goes.

I thought u only used increments when trying to find a max stable overclock. I know e8400 can go past 3.6ghz (not going to) and all the voltages on my mobo are showing green, i think what happened is i had an older version of orthos and something didnt quite fit. Because prime 95 has been running stable for a little over 20 minutes now, ill let it run throughout the day and see if any error occurs.

Ah sorry, the manual for my mobo says that voltages will be auto adjusted to run stable with whatever O.C. your goin for, which is why it has indicator lights to give you a general idea of where your voltages are at.
