For the ThinkBook 16 G7:

It lists the usb c port as supporting display port 1.4. Can this DP 1.4 do 25.92 Gbps or only 10 Gbps? Is it limited by the usb c port bandwidth?

It can do DP 1.4. For future reference, any USB-C alt mode actually uses the protocol. It's not constrained by USB.

Also, just to clarify, does that display port 2.1 80 gbps port limited by the usb4 c port that is 40 gbps? It’s listed in the ports section in the manual I linked. I’m making a huge purchase this has to be correct…

Again, whatever protocol (USB, DP, HDMI, etc) is supported by the USB-C port, it will use that protocol. USB-C defines a connector, not any protocols. Thus, for example, DP 2.1 is not constrained by USB or anything else.

Do you mean a cable? Also is the monitor you're connecting the laptop to use the actual DisplayPort connector or a USB-C one?

Something like this should work. If you don't actually need the full capabilities that DP 2.1 provides, then you can get this cable.
